All presidents should be such failures
June 24, 2003 in The Wire
I just heard Carol Moseley-Braun refer to the “failed presidency” of
President Bush. This is after he led us through two victorious wars and
an utter lack of successful terrorist attacks on the United States after
Sept. 11, 2001. We are in the middle of a economic downturn that started
during a dot-com bust that happened under President Clinton, yet
Americans are remarkably upbeat and positive about their future.
Folks, the American public isn’t going to buy the fertilizer these guys
are selling. I don’t like to pronounce any election as certain, because
anything can happen. The elder George Bush knows that all too well. But
I don’t see any of these guys having any message that will take. Not the
economy. Not the war on terror or WMD.
Americans have the feeling that they are being well-led. They got that
feeling because they are /paying attention./ The facts are that we *are*
being well lead. Yeah, I have many reservations about a lot of stuff
that the Bush administration supports. But this is war time, and the
rules are different during war time. Harping about a “failed presidency”
strikes me as being somewhat clueless.
