We need to nip this in the bud
June 25, 2003 in The Wire
Hey, I am usually in favor of anything that gets women to expose their
breasts. So, I support the right of women to whip ‘em out for a feeding
in restaurants, libraries and anywhere else they have been denied the
right to do so. But _this woman_
is dangerous to herself, her baby and others.
A young mother charged with child endangerment for breast-feeding
her baby while driving on the Ohio Turnpike contends that according
to the letter of the law, her actions were legal.
Catherine Donkers, 29, of Pittsburgh was arrested on May 8 and
charged with obstruction of official business, driving under
suspension, failure to have her child in a safety seat, failure to
comply and child endangerment.
Of course, she had a /excuse/:
Donkers said she didn’t have time to pull over for a feeding.
“That particular day I did have to be somewhere,” Donkers told
ABCNEWS’ Good Morning America. “I was planning on going to a seminar
on Friday morning. I had to get to Michigan that evening,” she said.
Donkers said she was wearing a seatbelt, and her 7-month-old
daughter was on her lap, on a nursing pillow.
Yeah, I hear those nursing pillows work just as well as an airbag when
distracted mothers accidentally swerve into oncoming traffic.
Sure, the breast was designed to feed babies, not serve as a fetish
object for horny American males. But the reality is that the sight of a
naked boob can also cause a guy to swerve into oncoming traffic. I know
this is going to infuriate a lot of the nipple Nazis out there, but
that’s the way it is.
