Well, I’m back

… but I had to completely reinstall Windows. Dammit.
UPDATE! Even better, I just discovered that I didn’t lose all my
previously installed programs and stored files. The shortcuts just
disappeared from my desktop and start menu. Whew!

J.K. Rowling kills off Hermione!

Just kidding! I haven’t read the book at all, so I don’t know which
“major” character buys the dirt nap.

Computer is down

Boy, is this a major pain in the butt. My wonderful Windows Xp machine
crashed. I am going to have to use a Windows Xp disc (one did not come
with the machine, of course) to try to find the file that suddenly
turned up missing and reload it. If all else fails, I will have to
reinstall the [...]

Cubs lose thanks again, to ‘Waive ‘em in Wendell’

Wendell Kim may be a nice guy. Perhaps he brings some intangible benefit
to the Cubs. But, as his performance in today’s game
showed, he lacks the
competences to be a third-base coach and needs to be fired. It was no
outs in bottom of the 7th inning. Damian Miller was on first and the
Cubs were down by [...]

Bye, bye Bellhorn, Hello Hernandez

The Chicago Cubs have traded

Mark Bellhorn and a minor league pitcher to the Colorado Rockies for
former Cub shortstop Jose Hernandez. Bellhorn, 28, appeared in 51 games
for the Cubs this year and hit .209 with 2 homers and 22 RBI. Hernandez
is batting .237 with 8 homers and 27 RBI. He also appeared in last
year’s All-Star Game [...]

Ain’t No Wise Dude

Brian Linse has this

to say about gun ownership:
Quick safes and trigger locks (which I have used since I first
became a gun owner) would reduce the real numbers of domestic gun
deaths and injuries significantly. But if you listen to John Lott
[...]

Two possible futures for Iran

Hossein Derakhshan warns
the West to not be fooled into thinking the MKO (one of their members
recently set himself on fire

to protest their leader’s arrest
in France) is a
legitimate political group that is fighting for the liberation of Iran.
They are not. These people backed Saddam during the Iran/Iraq War. Now
that I think about it, the [...]

No class in Cincy

Scenes from today’s Cubs game against Cincinnati. Red’s pitcher Paul
Wilson didn’t like the fact that a wild pitch from Cubs pitcher Kyle
Farnsworth came pretty close. He started jawing at Farnsworth, and
Farnsworth jawed back. Instant replay showed that Wilson charged
Farnsworth (who had drifted fairly close to Wilson as the wild pitch was
being retrieved). Farnsworth tackled the [...]
