Any other Peoria pundits out there?

http://www.hotelperemarquette.com/peoria.jpg
Other bloggers do it. North Georgia Dogma
has more than one poster. Right We Are is a
two-woman show again. Acidman lets guests
take make entries … although they tend to leave a mess.
Should I let other Peorians make posts? Anyone interested in doing so?
There are days when I just /cannot/ blog and it would [...]

Open meetings? We don’ need no steekin’ open meetings!

Peoria Mayor David Ransburg brings a corporate approach to solving the
city’s problems. He delegates. And holds meetings. And like most big
corporations, nothing really important gets done …
? /Journal Star/: Mayor outlines vision for city

/Ransburg opened his State of the City address Monday with that
story - personal testimony [...]

Two chicks /at the same time!/

Right We Are is making it a twosome
with the addition of
“Linda” as a regular blogger. Linda’s a teacher, but I think she’ll have
a few things to say that aren’t in the NEA/AFT handbook.
And I’ll fix that link button when I get around to it …

‘Ewwwwwert’

? Journal Star: Ewert has backers and detractors

Bern Ewert, the Savior of Economic Development, is not beloved
everywhere. The former /temporary/ city manager is being touted by Mayor
Dave Ransburg to head the Peoria Civic Federation. But it’s a hard sell.
It seems that the movers and shakers found Ewert’s tenure a little too
contentious for their tastes. So [...]

So much for New Year resolutions …

From today’s Journal Star editorial page:

/The Peoria Park District’s acquisition of a $270,000 federal grant
to help it link its river bluff properties with a hiking trail
system is an exciting gift to future generations and a central
Illinois that truly has [...]

Letter to the editor

http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/cx/uc/20040123/pr/pr040123l.gif

This could /easily/ be about the /Journal Star/. Sometimes I think the
editor board gets stoned on ditchweed before every meeting.
Take this edit , for
example. A restaurant closes and it’s because there isn’t enough
taxpayer supported businesses in downtown Peoria? Good Lord! Restaurants
open and close practically every day in the Peoria area. Restaurants are
extremely risky ventures in [...]

Duh!

Get a load of this headline from this morning’s Journal Star: “Politics
may decide fate of tax breaks.”

Politics?! Oh, no! Not /politics/! IIIIIEEEEEEEEE! Run for the hills!
Next thing you know, politics will be the deciding factor in determining
which roads are built.

It’s official: Peoria Civic Center not viable

The /Journal Star/ makes it clear
that 20 years after
the city started taxing residents to pay for the thing that the PCC will
never be able to survive on its own and will always need to be bailed
out by the taxpayers. They are losing potential clients to larger
facilities and now that the original bonds are being [...]

Luciano misses the point on Stenson and video

Phil Luciano got a look at the video tape Peoria Police Chief John Stenson took from Army Spc. DeMarcus McNeil, a soldier on leave from serving in Iraq. By Luciano’s own account, at no point on this video tape is Stenson or any other police officer asking this guy to voluntarily hand over the tape [...]
