Apparently WHOI didn’t get the message. The Krispy Kreme fad is over! Fini! Kaput! The once-trendy donut chain is not on anyone’s “hot” list anymore. The public has wised up to the fact that that they don’t taste any better than any other donut. The fact that Krispy Kreme has vomited forth a store across the street from Northwoods Mall is not a news story. Make the b*stards buy a damn ad! And I still say I’d rather have a “Lester’s.”

Amen on Lester’s. But I was over Krispy Kreme years ago. The hotel I managed in Tenn. had KK in our continental breakfast and too much of anything gets old fast. Lester’s should buy a blog ad from you.

Hands down, Trefzger’s has the best coffee cakes. My favorite donuts used to come from Don’s Donuts on Spring Street. That was probably 30 years ago but most people from the East Bluff and Near North Side would remember Don’s well.

Don’s were great. Dad worked third shift at Pabst and Dad often stopped there after work before heading to our NE Adams street home. I’ll always remember my reaction when I bit into a donut from Mr. Donut and telling Dad that we had better go to Don’s next time.
Woodruff High School German teacher Lloyd Hedges always bought several boxes of Lesters and sold them before school as a fund raiser for one of the several clubs he advised. So I have a warm spot for Lester’s.

I agree that Krispy Kreeme is not as good, but to say the fad is out of style, at least in Bloomington, is not true. Everytime that red sign goes on, it’s like a bug to a bug zapper. Just draws them in.

Peoria doesn’t need a Krispy Kreme, it needs a SONIC!
And a Waffle House.

We also need a White Castle.

White Castle is what made your hair fall out, Bill.

Naw. It was too many lap dances at Fantasyland.

You need to spend your money on a real girlfriend, Bill.

I myself would drive to bloomington for a Krispy Kreme donut. Maybe you haven’t gotten one of the fresh ones when they come out of the oven.

Breaker: Go down to Lester’s on Prospect behidn the Subway. Go in and order fresh, out-of-the-oven donuts. Delicious. And you don’t have to pay extra for the tendy.

Amen to Vonster’s comments. Sonic and Waffle House is where it’s at!
I’m not sure if Waffle House comes this far north, or if it is an expanding franchise, but Sonic advertises on our cable, so we oughta get one! I sent them an email within the past year stating that we were a “growing” economy, and that we had a Krispy Kreme on the way, so you know we’re trendy. Got a standard form letter back for my efforts.
As for White Castle… I can do that, too. It’d be hard on the old thundermug, but it’s seen worse.

Peoria needs a freakin Giordano’s. Theres a few of them in the Chicagoland and they have the absolute best Pizza. Hmm, my mouth waters thinking about the 1 inch thick Pizza.

Peoria has several Leonardo’s Pizza joints, thereby providing residents with the perfect pizza. ‘Nuff said.

…and a Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse. Mmmmmmmmmmm!
