Ransburg changing ‘progressive’ excuse for parking deck project

March 31, 2005 in Statehouse & Capitol

Back when I talked to City Manager Randy Oliver about the city’s secret negotiations to spend $4.5 million on “infrastructure improvements” at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, the excuse was that the college would abandon Peoria is we didn’t show them the love. And build a parking deck for the rich doctors who sometimes taught there.

Well, college officials said they have not, nor will they, leave Peoria anytime soon. Whoops.

Now Millionaire Dave Ransburg — Peoria’s so-called “progressive” mayor — is spinning a different tale.

Now he says the four doctors’ groups who would be using this city-financed parking deck might leave Peoria is we don’t kiss their asses with taxpayer dough.

These doctors groups include: Peoria Surgical Group, Gastroenterology Ltd., Midwest Urological Group, and Peoria Pulmonary.

Will the Journal Star — or any other Peoria media for that matter — actually calling these businesses (and that’s exactly what they are)? Is the Journal Star’s news department willing to risk findout out that Dave Ransburg — the favorite son of the editorial writers — is spinning another tale?

If so, they better hurry. The election is in five days.

And who gives a **** if the doctors locate outside of DOWNTOWN Peoria???? What’s the catch here? Just as with the stadium and most other local development, we’re not getting the real story. The wife made me stop watching council meetings because of me yelling at the TV. Argh!!
