Thanks to the generous donor (and some thoughts about going pro)

April 29, 2005 in Citizen Journalism

I awoke to find some cash in my PayPal tip jar.

The name and amount of donation will remain anonymous, of course. But it is very much appreciated.

It’s no secret that I’d love to figure out a way to do this full-time. But, if there is a way to blog full time and make a living at it, I’ve yet to stumble across a working model.*

Until then, I’ll continue to muddle along, maintaining my amateur status.

* Maybe a two-tier system, in which I post normal blog-type articles on Peoria Pundit, with the ability to upgrade to a pay-only version with more complete news links, wire stories, original reporting and open comments on the paid site. Any thoughts? Would 200 people be willing to pay $10 a month to get Peoria Pundit Premium edition?

    Bill,

    Sorry, no I wouldn’t pay.

While your blog is tremendous (and I’ll call you my “blogfather”), there are just so many great blogs that are free.

Maybe if I lived in Peoria…

Actually, bill, check out Roger Simon’s Open Letter to All Blogger’s regarding a new idea for a two-route blog revenue stream.

Sounds intriguing, and whenever I finish putting together a grown-up blog, I’ll jump in as well.

    $10/month….sign me up!

    Keep up the good work.

    $10.00?! Bargain! I’d pay.

  5. Bill Dennis Says:

    Great! So far, I have a committment for $20 a month …

  6. Stormin' Norman Says:

I used to pay $17.33 per month with the Journal Star before canceling that subscription. Anything less than that is a bargain as far as I’m concerned…

Bill heres an idea, create a massive nationwide blog about politics as a whole. You could divide it up into states and do individual cities as you wish. Then once you get popular enough, you can offer a $20 lifetime fee for a period of 2 weeks. Then after that, new subscribers will have to pay $10 a month. If you get maybe 100 new subscribers a week out of the millions in the US, then thats $1000 right there. Theres many many free blogs in individual areas but people would love to have them all at one blog and to just switch from state to state. Just something to ponder about.

    Jason
