The new cable Internet is up and running. Still a few bugs to work out, though. Insight advertises speed of 4.0 Mb a second, and I’m getting anywhere between 1.5 and 2.5 Mb/second.
It does seem to be moving a bit faster than my DSL, and I was supposed to be getting speed of about 3.0 [...]

In the few minutes I am allowing myself to rest before I start lugging boxes the 18 blocks to my new crib, I’ll indulge myself by commenting on today’s Journal Star article by Catherine Schaidle about the signs shaming local slumlords:
Abso-freeking-lutely beautiful.
I read this over breakfast at McDonalds and about … well, let’s just say [...]

I’m moving into my new place today. I won’t have an Internet connection until at least Tuesday, So, blogging will be light to say the least.
I’m probably going to turn off all commenting except for those signed up for TypeKey, in order to keep the spam to a minimum.
I’ll be bopping back and forth between [...]

As much as some people would like to see it happen, the new city council isn’t going to reverse the decision of the current batch to start the process of buying the Illinois American Water Company. Jennifer Davis has a decent article that makes the reasons clear: The new council members simply want to [...]

Edgar Sandoval’s Market 117 blog is gone*, perhaps permanently, I fear. Any attempt to visit it are redirected to the Blogger homepage.
I’m afraid the site has been deleted.
No other Blog*Spot site on my blogroll has been affected.
What’s up?
* UPDATE: In less than 30 minutes, the problem has been solved, apparently. Perhaps it was because [...]

WEEK reports that the Peoria area is one of 70 lobbying to be the site of a refueling tank factory for the European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company.
At this point, I’m hoping the damn thing goes somewhere else. This has all the earmarks of being a boondoggle in the making.
With 70 communities “lobbying” to be [...]

Merle Widmer is doing a better job than I am at keeping track of the money being spent on all the boondoggle projects in Peoria.

For years, one of the many criticisms leveled against city council member Gary Sandberg was that he pandered to disgruntled voters. There always will be a segment of the populace upset over progress. By opposing many of the projects favored by those the Journal Star called “progressives,” Sandberg was simply trolling for votes.
So how [...]

Anyone out there listen in on my interview with LVROCKS.com? We talked about the issues in Peoria — the water company buyout — and Peorians’ view on national stories — the new Pope and the War on Terror.
But for some reason the guy was fascinated with energy policy. I’m not an expert on energy policy, [...]

They’ve agreed to set a date to set a date to decide whether Chase Ingersoll will continue to be banned from Peoria City Hall because of emails the recipients considered threatening.
I’ve written that I consider that the restraining order is not necessary. Chase isn’t a threat to anybody else. The guy is a well-known gadfly [...]

I was planning on taking a day off and not write about anything today.
But there’s just too much good juicy stuff going on! I’ll post some articles about Chase Ingersoll and the water buyout later today.
Don’t worry, anti-Progressives! I’ve got your back!
And don’t forget my radio appearance.

The Journal Star was suing Peoria School District 150 over the district’s refusal to release documents concerning its decision to put former superintendent Kay Royster on administrative leave.
The JS won in court at every turn, but the district kept fighting to keep the documents under wraps.
The last Peoria Pundit post I could find was [...]
