It’s official: Bartonville is cracking down on bars

The village is raising the fines it can charge bars that violate the city’s liquor ordinances.
Granted the fines to bring the village up to state standards, and God knows that bureaucrats want their little rules and regulations to be uniform.
But last month, these guys just held their first liquor commission hearing in years. Now, all of the sudden, my sources say the new mayor and village board seems to want everyone to behave according to the letter of the law.
As someone who has lived across the street from a bar or two during his lifetime, I appreciate the need to enforce liquor codes. But if any political body that thinks it can crack the whip on honest-minded busines owners without there being a backlash are seriously mistaken.
