‘Moonlight ride’

I found this picture while browsing the Web for images of Peoria.
I thought it a good way to test a new plugin for my Wod Word Press installation.
For those who don’t know, Peoria was a big riverboat town back in the day.
We still have a riverboat and a Steamboat Festival, but no riverboat races, which [...]

Isn’t Canada mad enough at us already?

Relations with our neighbor to the north haven’t been all that great since we liberated Iraq and they stayed behind, like the half-French nation they are.
So why are we intentionally doing something as obnoxious as sending country rapper to perform in Edmonton?
His name is Cowboy Troy. Taking the stage with Big & Rich on Sunday [...]

Well, they are talking, but they aren’t saying much about BU meeting

WMBD 1470 reports that Bradley University leaders — including BU president David Broski — met with the Mayor, 2nd District Council member Barbara Van Auken, city staffers and the presidents of three nearby neighborhood associations met today to discuss the university’s expansion plans.
The concern started after BU started buying up homes in the Arbor District. [...]

Peoria’s loss is East Peoria’s gain

There hasn’t been a single new name added to the Peoria Police Department’s infamous Web site in two weeks. Either they’ve stopped trying to make arrests (doubtful, considering Chief Steve Settingsgaard’s zeal) or the johns have been scared away.
So where are the prostitutes going to make a living?
East Peoria.
Seriously.
A family friend says he was grabbing [...]

It’s a nice little scam the editorial board has going on over at the Journal Star

This rumor comes from someone in a position to know.
The Journal Star’s award-winning (snicker) editorial board refused (perhaps they would prefer the word “declined”) to print Peoria Police Chief Steve Settingsgaard’s complete letter regarding the decision to put the names and addresses of those arrested for soliciting prostitutes on the Web.
My source tells me that [...]

It’s official: Bartonville is cracking down on bars

The village is raising the fines it can charge bars that violate the city’s liquor ordinances.
Granted the fines to bring the village up to state standards, and God knows that bureaucrats want their little rules and regulations to be uniform.
But last month, these guys just held their first liquor commission hearing in years. Now, [...]

I think he spelled the chief’s name wrong …

There’s nothing as fun as getting long letter-to-the-editor that is just one long paragraph, with some workds ALL CAPS.
To Chief Stoogengourd:
What will you do as a result of your over zealous campaign when you arrest a totally innocent person and subsequently publish their photo?Who will protect the wives, children and families that you address in your [...]

I wonder if Eric Zorn realizes …

… now that he’s off the Chicago Tribune’s server, he can start running his own blogrolls, permalinks, comments, etc. As someone who probably would be on that blogroll, I highly encourage him to do it.

New Peoria (County) Blogger

Well, I hope so anyway. “Precinct Committeeman” has started Peoria County Politics. There’s just one post, dated June 26.
With my blogging attention focused on the city, this guy could serve a real need out there in Limestone Township, which is always a hotbed of political intrigue.
I’ve added him to my “Political Bloggers” blogroll.

I won’t hot link to the actuual file. Go to this page and look it up. While you are there, explore and click on some of the other files. There’s a lot of interesting [...]

Joe Birkett defended

I received this letter shortly after posting about Joe Birkett and the Brian Dugan matter:
I am a consultant to Joe Birkett. Your facts are haywire. You are guilty of just reading selectively printed material coming almost exclusively from critics. Here’s a post from a former critic who looked at the facts [...]
