Luciano might have a double standard for women in combat

March 28, 2006 in Statehouse & Capitol Tags: ,

JS columnist Phil Luciano interviewed Congressional candidate Tammy Duckworth, and makes note of her stay in Peoria with the National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 106th Aviation Regiment.

The article takes a respectful tone toward Duckworth, considered a rising star in the Democratic Party because of her record as a wounded-in-action Iraq veteran.

But I also seem to recall Luciano previously expressing some concerns about woman serving in the military. Granted, Luciano was concerned about mothers leaving their children to serve overseas, and Duckworth has no children. But I also don’t recall Luciano getting on a soapbox about single dads going off into combat.

So maybe that explains why Luciano can (deservedly) gush all over Duckworth, and reserve his ire for women soldiers who aren’t Congressional candidates.
