BU in a state of non-denial denial about expansion
Bradley the headline about the Bradley Scout article — BU officials say posted map is inaccurate — I couldn’t find a single word that denied what I’ve been writing:
A map recently published in the Peoria Pundit blog detailing Bradley’s 15-year plan for campus expansion and improvements bears some relevance, said Vice President for Business Affairs Gary Anna.
But Anna added the article and map posted – and any other maps circulating – don’t possess all facets of the current plan. The maps on Peoria Pundit are dated Oct. 28, 2005.
This is the closest any BU official came to denying the accuracy of the five-month old map, which they are apparently already redoing:
“[The map] assumes control of certain properties that may or may not be legitimate,†Anna said.
Most of the comments would tend to confirm that BU does in fact plan to take out that section of Maplewood Avenue.
While he has seen the plans and map, [Associate Provost for Student Affairs Alan] Galsky said he didn’t know specifics about the expansion on Maplewood Avenue. He said he thinks expanding west will be a win-win situation for students and the neighborhood. “It’s not only a good thing for Bradley, but also for Peoria,†he said. “For the [Maplewood] property, it would be better than what it is now in terms of safety, lighting and maintenance.â€
In other words, it’s a non denial denal. They are saying my complaints are inacurate because in their opinion doing what the may says they are going to do would benefit students.
Hat tip to the many people inside BU who sent me a link to the Scout article.

Yes, this issue is important to Peoria neighborhoods. I value this blog because, esp. with Gary Sandberg’s posts yesterday, I’m thinking fairly deeply about it.
But can I ask you a big favor? The BU expansion is a very slow moving process. Meanwhile, the county board may be voting by next Thursday on whether or not to expand PDC’s landfill in Pottstown. Whether or not to approve PDC’s continued pollution of our community (and the County Staff’s report even acknowledges that the site is already leaking!). So given the urgency of this other issue, and the greater danger to all in terms of health, would you mind throwing a bit of your blogging efforts towards it? I’d really, sincerely appreciate it. I’d post PFATW’s website, but that’s against the rules, no?
Oh, and thanks.
