Around the blogosphere
May 11, 2006 in Overset
I had a few minutes for little browsing today, and thought I would share:
- The lefty American Prospect offers a good explanation for why there’s been so many attacks on blogging from the mainstream media lately. The reason: Many bloggers can compete with the pros on the basis of the quality of the words on the screen, whereas many columnists — once they get their comfy jobs, tends to not get fired and instead like to rest on their laurels. Also, bloggers aren’t afraid to criticize other bloggers and the MSM, something that members of the MSM avoid doing.
Hat tip to Eric Zorn
- Jeff Jarvis is right: The MSM does treat us like idiots.
- Josua Micha Marshall suggests that if Al Qaeda has grown so large under President Bush’ watch that he has to bug the conversations of tens of millions of American citizens* to catch them, then he hasn’t been as successful as his apologists have claimed.
… and I don’t want to hear whining that people who have nothing to hide have nothing to fear. I had a police officer tell me once that if an officer follows a car on the road long enough, that driver will to something to justify a traffic stop. The same thing applies to government snooping. This isn’t the America I want to live in.

So, Bill, what do you think about the cameras to be installed around Peoria to catch the criminals???? Is that the Peoria or America you want? If they watch the criminals and ‘you’ long enough will you do something to justify an arrest?

$750,000 for cameras? What a bunch of idiots! Not the council but US if we allow it. What\’s wrong with busting heads? Good old fashion policing? They, the cameras, will work just like the traffic cameras at traffic lights, you sit and watch the grass grow and nothing gets done.

How should the msm treat bloggeratti? With respect as peers, kind of like the owner of a jewelry store might treat the guy out on the street with a coat full of gold chains stopping passersby to hawk his wares.
