In search of a modem

May 13, 2006 in Advertising, Overset

I blame no one but myself. I made arrangements to get basic dial up access until I can secfure broadband at my trailer. I went out and bought a long phone cord and started to hook it up ,,, and discovered that there was no modem in my PC.

Then I remembered: I took the modem out to make room for a PCI graphics card. I did it several years ago and I have long ago given away/lost./threw out the 56K modem.

So, anyone know where I cay buy cheap or trade for a working 56K modem, internal or external? By trade, I mean I am willing to trade ad space here on Peoria Pundit.

Any takers should send me an email with their phone number.

If ever there was a posting that showed the beginning of the end of civilization as we’ve known it, this one is it.

Get the Verizon wireless access card. It is not as fast as cable modem. But it will keep up with DSL anywhere in the country that has Verizon service.

It also comes with WIFI, so that whenever you are at a hotspot you’ll have access to the bandwidth there.

56k modems are about 10 bucks. Try the Computer Deli on N Sheridan Rd next to Jeffery Alan’s just past Lake Street. They will give you the $23 one, just say I want the cheap one. I put them in systems all the time and never had one come back.

I haven’t priced a 56 K modem is a looooooong time and I didn’t know that a good one had dropped to that level. I’ll probably just end up buying one from Wally World or someplace. But I still wouldn’;t mind sticking tot he barter system. I’m just a cheap skate …

Prego: Really? The END of civilization. Did I do that? My bad ….

Prego: Perhaps you are right. This is supposed to be an online journal of news and opinion. Not a blog, where posts like this are quite common, I assure you.

Unfortunately, I have some 1,000 vititors daily come to visit Peoria Pundit, while Bill’s Content, my personal blog, gets far less. I don’t exactly know how many because I refuse to put a hit counter on it.

Still, as it says in the masthead, I do accept advertising here. Sometime the advertising is from ME. Does the JS help bring about the fall of society when it prints ads? Or does the editorial page accomplish that all by its lonesome?

Bill, I often read good amounts of sarcasm in your statements and your replies, and yet somehow, when I give some stupid sarcasm to you, you always take it personally. You got to lighten up, buddy. The two people who read what I write will know that I rip into the computer culture regularly… and that’s all that I meant with my stupid comment. Nothing more… nothing less. Breathe in… and release.

As far as I’m concerned, you can do whatever you want cause it’s your blog. I see no problem at all that you were asking for a modem. I was only being smarmy about a computer being involved, that’s it. Had you been requesting a new pencil sharpener, I would not have typed a darned word… unless I had a good one to sell.

  8. Bill Dennis Says:

So … do you have a modem to sell or not?

Forget it. I’m assured that they come cheap these days.

P.S. I find it advisable to post a smiley ;-) when using sarcasm, cause it doesn’t translate well into test, unless you are a master at it.

  9. Me Says:

Maybe the IP comanies should censor you, Bill?? De-Link you at least, eh?

  10. Emtronics Says:

I’ll look in my spare parts drawer tomorrow and see if I have one. If I do, I’ll email ya and you can make it a donation.

Were you looking to modulate AND demodulate?

    How quiant.

Bill, with all due respect, ANYONE who would have read the following:

“If ever there was a posting that showed the beginning of the end of civilization as we’ve known it, this one is it.”

And did not automatically KNOW that it was meant in a sarcastic vein (even though it’s a quite POOR vein)… well, that person, in my opinion, has been blogging far too many hours during that particular day.

In short, I absolutely REFUSE to place a “smiley face” anywhere within 1.3 acres of any posting I might place. Thank ya kindly.

Have you tried calling the Smithsonian? Or Illinois Antique Center downtown?
