Horrible news for the Blogopshere

Rob Smith, AKA “Acidman,” creator of the infamous and scandalous blog “Gutrumbles,” has died. His daughter Sam reports on his blog that:

They found him at 2:00 this morning slumped over on the couch. He did not shoot himself and no pills or alcohol were found in the house. When I find out anything else I’ll let you know. Out of respect for my family please do not leave nasty comments.

Rob was one of the very few Big Gun bloggers to take notice of my little corner of the Blogophere. He’d occasionally link back to a post, or give me a shout out when I would email him a photo I knew he would appreciate. He passed through Illinois about two years ago, and never tried to get in contact with me. I’m sorry he didn’t, cause I’m sure he would have enjoyed a visit to some of Peoria’s more notoroius establishments.

His death seemed sudden, a strange feeking considering that not all that long ago he blogged that his health was failing so fast, he predicted his death would be soon. Instead, his friends confronted the cantankerous old bastard and got him enrolled in a alcohol and drug treatment facility.

Whether or not it added time to his life is debatable. But it certainly made those remaining months happier, as he could once again enjoy the company or friends and family.

I’ve mentioned him and linked to his posts too many times to count. So, I’ll just post a link to a site search for “Acidman.” Enjoy. And by all means, visit his site and snoop around. He was politically incorrect in all the right ways and a delight to read.

UPDATE: I came across this post recently. I was surprised by how sad I still am at his passing.
