Patrotism, or school bureaucrats being their usual anal-retentive control freak selves?

I covered school districts for more than 20 years, off and on, back when I was doing this sort of thing for a “living,” and I saw this sort of unthinking authoritarian behavior all the time:
The Jefferson County School District said Thursday that it has reinstated a geography teacher who was placed on paid administrative leave because he refused to take down foreign flags hung up in his classroom.
The school district said Eric Hamlin will be back in class at Carmody Middle School and so will his flags. Hamlin said he needs to think about whether he wants to return to the school or not.
“I did ask the area superintendent if I could take one more day, tomorrow, (to) think through this,” said Hamlin. “It’s the first time I’ve been torn in quite a while.”
This teacher is lucky. Sometimes these thinks end up in court, because there are no people more arrogant and self-righteous than school boards and superintendents.
And you imagine? All the problems in the world, and presumably one or two of those problems are affecting the kids in this classroom, and these dunderheads are wasting this time, energy and class time making sure a piece of cloth representing another nation isn’t displayed in a classroom that is supposed to be devoted to learning about other nations.
Are they afraid the Foreign Flag Bureau of Investigation will barge in one day and place everyone under arrest? This is complete and utter b.s.
Dolts. And their siblings control school districts all over the nation, and this includes Peoria. Another great case for home schooling is made.

I believe the school district took the action it did in response to a Colorado state law forbidding the display of flags of foreign nations in the classroom. After hearing about this, it’s little wonder that American high school students are geographically illiterate and struggle to find the US on a map. With the world being what it is today with issues like terrorism and the globalized economy, the US cannot afford widespread geographic illiteracy, yet it’s where we find ourselves.

What would be un-Patriotic about displaying other nations’ flags? Its not like they were reciting a pledge to a foreign flag…
