Another censorship by theft at a university

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

It’s a recurring theme at our institutions of higher learning: If you don’t like what the newspaper is saying, resort to theft:
Sigma Chi fraternity admitted Wednesday to stealing more than 10,000 copies of The Daily Tar Heel in an attempt to prevent the public from reading a front-page article about the fraternity’s hazing violations and […]

Ask the wrong questions, get fired

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

I haven’t submitted a post with the “unethical journalist” tag in quite some time, but this tale was too good to pass up:
A reporter at the Newport [Tennessee] Plain Talk got fired because he asked questions about Cocke County Mayor Iliff McMahan’s bear-hunting without a license. Reporter Gary Butler, a seven-year veteran at the paper, […]

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

It’s my understanding that two intrepid Journal Star wordsmiths are suffering from sore necks after one of the two drove her car the wrong way down a one-way street in Springfield and had a bit of a fender bender. I hope neither they nor their licenses suffer too much.

The post that got away

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

I had a brilliant post all ready to go this morning, then my blog crashed. I contacted my hosting company, then ran errands. I came back and they still hadn’t fixed it. I deleted one plugin, reinstalled it and it stated working.
I cannot believe it was the plugin since it’s one I’ve used for years.
So, […]
