It’s official: Topinka deserves to lose
November 5, 2006 in Statehouse & Capitol
If there was one lingering doubt about whether I was wrong to support Rich Whitney instead of Judy Baar Topinka for governor, all questions were answered by what I heard her say tonight in Bloomington/Normal Springfield, namely that Rob Blagojevich has perhaps spent more time at Wrigley Field than at the State Capitol:
“Maybe he ought to run for manager of the Cubs. They’re a bunch of losers too and they need the help.”
And she was booed. At her own rally.
How absolutely symbolic of her clueless campaign. I mean, exactly how many votes did she think she’d pick up by saying that?
Stupid, stupid, stupid.
I fully expect to read tomorrow that she also made a crack about the Bears losing to the Miami Dolphins, then topped it all off with a few dead baby jokes.
UPDATED: The Associated Press was there and makes note of the insult, and Blago’s reaction. Hat tip to Archpundit.

You know I’m a Cardinals fan and I enjoy the occasional Cubs joke, but honestly, I would never call the Cubs “a bunch of losers” even in jest among my friends, let alone on the campaign trail. What a stupid thing to say.
Of course, I’ll be voting for write-in candidate Randy Stufflebeam for governor.

I guess she failed to realize the Cubs organization is owned by the Tribune Company, that is owned by WGN has one of the largest markets in the Country as a whole. Her comments went out across the country via WGN News. Probably one of the dummest comments, next to Kerry’s I’ve heard on the campaign trail.

Scott - JBT’s slap on the Cubbies was FAR, FAR dumber than what Kerry said. Kerry’s comment last week was over-interpreted. It was pretty obvious to me that we wasn’t talking about current troops, but how to stay out of Iraq. And I’d bet most folks just rolled their eyes and said whatever.
BUT EVERYONE can understand what JBT said about the Cubs. EVERYONE, everywhere, gets sports comments - even those who hate sports can understand what happens when you call someone a “bunch of losers.”
The IL Green Party is hoping for a win, from what I’ve been hearning - so get out there and vote folks. Whitney could pull the biggest upset of this century AND the last. Bigger than anything the Cubs, White Sox, Red Sox, Bears, any team anywhere could manage in any year. Seriously.

JBT said that? Seriously??? Ohhh my god. What an IDIOT. She’s taking the whole Republican-Democrat Red-Blue Cardinal-Cub thing a bit too far.

Believe me cgiselle12 when I say this: If it takes Whitney to win the Govenorship for the Cubs to win the World Series, he has my vote. And I wasn’t comparing comments, I was simply comparing the ignorance of them.

Just another reason to vote for her. The Cubs ARE losers as are their fans!

Bill-
If ever there was a reason to do so, I think Ryan johnson should be banned.
…and flogged
In fact, is there any chance of reinstating the guillotine? This would warrant it, I believe.

Mouse: As you well know, I have a high tolerance for stupid comments made on my blog.

Of course you have a high tolerance - the same way Typhoid Mary had a high tolerance, too. She was a carrier.

I don’t care who you are, THAT comment there was funny!

Don’t knock the Cubs! On opening day 2007 at Wrigley Field, the first 30 people at the gate get to play.
