George Jacob will announce at 11 p.m. 11 a.m. tomorrow that he will run for election to the Peoria City Council. He already is serving at an at-large member, having been appointed to fill the at-large seat vacated by Jim Ardis upon his election as mayor. The announcement will be made in the council chambers at Peoria City Hall on Fulton Street.

Will he be serving Bud Select, too?

11Pm? A little late at night. Is this to say it will be after a long city council meeting?

George Jacob has been active in the community as a large councilman, more than I can say for some other at large councilmen. Rarely see them at “working” events, (litter clean ups).

Hope other citzens run also, to replace Mr. Morris.

I think he’s turning out to be a decent council member. He definately is committed and puts in the time that he needs to. I’m still a little uneasy about the liquor issues and conflicts of interest. He has to recuse himself on an awful lots of votes due to his employments — at times seems like 20% or so but probably less than that.

I have a hard time believing that he doesn’t discuss these issues with other Councilmembers prior to the meetings.

If we’re taking a Pundit Poll, I’m for him. He is very dedicated to his position and to the City. I’m with Mr. Palmer on this. He does attend neighborhood functions whether they be clean-ups or meetings. He sits on porches, late at night in other neighborhoods when told about issues, walks some of our neighborhood streets late at night when some of us are closed up in our homes, afraid to go out; his liquor business? I do not beleive this is an issue. It wasn’t for the Council when they accepted him or when he was voted in at the time, so it shouldn’t be for us now.
