Like a bad horror movie cliche, some monsters refuse to stay dead

Today’s Word on the Street reports that former City Council member Gale Thetford may run for an at-large seat on the council. Thetford, for those who have forgotten, was soundly trashed by challenger Bob Manning two years ago. My two cents: I lived in 2nd District back in April 2005 had the distinct pleasure of helping to vote Marcella Teplitz out of office. This time, I may have to move back to Peoria simply for the pleasure of voting against Thetford. Perhaps someone will convince Teplitz to run, so she can get her ass kicked by voters for a second time, too. Dumping these two prima-donnas and replacing them with true public servants Manning and Barbara Van Auken was the smartest thing voters in Peoria have done in years.

I still lived in the East Bluff when I had the pleasure of voting for Bob Manning instead of Gale Thetford. Manning has turned out to be an admirable public servant — at least up until the most recent vote that left the $6 regressive garbage fee in place — but truth be told, I would have voted for anyone besides Thetford.

Angie: You and Rob supply the pitchforks and I’ll get some sticks and oily rags and make some torches. We’ll chase both those creatures out of the village.

I’m ripping rags as we speak.

    Billy,
Your hate for the so called “progressive group” or as you like to refer to them “Randsburg lackeys” is amazing. It’d be interesting to compare the records of the new breed of councilmembers to the old…as I think the Word on the Street began to do. With a few notable exceptions (Manning is definately a bright spot on the council – informed, intelligent, rationale), I think you’ll find that the citizens of Peoria are getting the same service from the current group as from the prior group.

There has been NO movement on addressing the items that the group ran on as their “platform for change”. Still have the garbage tax, St. 11 still not staffed as it was prior to the budget cuts (which we should remember eliminated over 100 jobs not just the 11 firefighters), same old budget process…fortunately they didn’t implement the one new proposal they have come up with (increasing the property tax!). Not saying that I agree with all the items they promised to change when campaigning but interesting that they haven’t delivered on any of them.

I think overall that the nature of the beast for local politicians is not that much different from one to the other (save for Sandburg who is always a free thinker).

I think you should be pushing your group harder to explain why they are so disappointing to the public that put them into office.
