Obama in the race for real now
December 11, 2006 in Statehouse & Capitol
John Rubery* tipped me off to news that the the wife of anti-Wal-Mart Barack Obama served on the board of a company that does business with Wal Mart.
My two cents: Good heavens. Wal-Mart sells everything. Name a consumer products company that doesn’t do business with Wal-Mart.
It’s official, I suppose. Obama is in the big leagues now, judging by all the snarky press he’s getting now. That’s the way the game is played, and Obama is going to have to be able to respond to this stuff. It’s looking like it’s going to be a race between Sen. Hilary Clinton and Obama. The knock against Obama is his seeming lack of experience (being governor of Texas didn’t seem to make Bush a better president) and the knock against Sen. Clinton is that no one is really all that passionate about her candidacy.
How quickly things change. It wasn’t all that long ago, I was being sneered at for arguing that the time is now for Obama to run.
I briefly listened to Rush Limbaugh this morning, and he’s apparently decided to address Illinois’ junior Senator by his full name: “Barack Hussein Obama.” He made sure to add an extra-long hiss to “Hussein.” I have news for Rush. A huge portion of the voting public is already willing to vote this guy into the White House knowing full well his last name sounds like “Osama.” The middle name trick isn’t going to work. Most Americans are the semi-literate, racist, knee-jerk crackers who will fall for that crap. And those who are tend to vote … well, not for liberals.
Archpundit has been following the commentary on not-yet campaign pretty well, and this post is a good place to start.
Here is Obama giving some standard answers to friendly questions from Alan Colmes back in early November:
* And I’d like to thank John for this post that links to Peoria Pundit and The Great Blogfather to Us All.

Obama is a handsome, well spoken, charismatic black man embraced by the left.
Can you think of a parallel?

Image over substance. He looks good and sounds good, but his ideas are just run-of-the-mill Democrat Party talking points. Big deal.

The media loves to build up people so they can tear them down. It makes them feel powerful and important. One half of the equation started with Watergate.

He is popular, but not that popular. He speaks honestly and he is sincere. He would probably make a good president someday. I don’t think he has the experience with the current foreign leaders, nor does he have the connections. He seems like he would be a great Mayor.

* yawn * Flavor of the month… or maybe the season. In the end, it’s going to be Al Gore… who will not only be the next Democratic Presidential nominee, but will also be our next president.
There IS light at the end of the tunnel, fellow citizens.

Al Gore? Are you kidding? Not going to happen.

Gonna happen, Em… just wait.

As long as it is not Hillary, I will be happy. I would be tempted to move out of the country if she is elected president. Exactly who in the hell actually thinks that she would make a good president?

At this time, I believe that Bonzo the Talking Zebra would be a better president than George W. In fact, I would call that thought a certain “slam-dunk.”
Ka-zing.
