  7. PeoriaIllinoisan Says:

“May I speak to the owner of the business” (call center background noise blaring)

    “Can I ask who’s calling”

“This is Mona” (a legit call would’ve said Mona Sanders from A.G. Widget Co.)

    “Mona?”

    “Yes, Mona.”

“Mona, the owner is not available, may I take a message?”

“No, that’s ok, I’ll try again later.” [click]

I hate telemarketers. This one was blatantly obvious, but at least she was courteous, which is more than I can say about a lot of them. Why haven’t they figured out that some audio buffers to tone down the background noise would go a long way? I think I need to invest in new phones with caller I.D.

  8. drkanbs Says:

Sadly I was a telemarketer once, but It was a terrible experience for me. Thank god I got fired from the job, as it sucked anyway. I was attempting to sell magazines and the bulk of customers I got were poor anyway. And they had no protocol about how to answer customer questions. On top of it they were all foriegn so I couldnt understand them anyway. Now, Im just nice to them due to that bad experience but they still don’t get anything out of me.

Btw I can read that stuff above..one of those 55 of 100 that can.

  9. MDD Says:

Since my other comment disappeared, again.. (I now save comments so I can repost later, mainly for my PJStar comments that routinely get deleted by the special people over there)

Two energy companies may be in the running to sell electricity to Central Illinois residential customers.

    From the PJStar:

    http://www.pjstar.com/php/inde.....s_residen/

    Here’s the interesting part:

“Kenny Blum, an account executive with AmerenCILCO, said Wednesday that while there has been interest in the utilities’ “Customer Elect Plan” designed to delay the impact of monthly payments, there has been no interest in residential consumers purchasing electricity from a retail supplier.

“I couldn’t encourage you more to seek out another supplier,” Blum told a Kiwanis Club of Peoria meeting at Lariat Steakhouse. ”

    WHAT?
At first glance, this sounds strange. Ameren WANTS us to buy electricity from someone else?

The truth is that Ameren will get paid the same no matter whether you buy the electricty from them or someone else. They are paid to DELIVER it, not to produce it.

So, if you begin to buy it from another company, they still get paid, although they will get paid via the 3rd party company and no longer have to deal with billing you and all of the other individuals. Ameren will send one big bill each month to the third party energy company. It will save them money if you buy it elsewhere.

You will save money by paying a cheaper rate. Ameren didn’t care what the auction price would be as they would get paid for the transmission of the electricity, no matter how much or little, they paid for it.

I suggest EVERYONE start by contacting Ameren and asking for third party supliers for thier residential electricity. Afterall, it is apparently what Ameren wants.

  10. Cory Says:

Working at a business that has 50+ phone numbers, we have the honor of getting several calls from telemarketers a day. My favorites are the ones calling from India with fake names. Last I checked, Indian families don’t generally name their children John Garcia. I’m not sure where, but I saw somewhere that they are trained to use fake names and are taught to speak with an American accent. Most of them aren’t very good at either.

  11. PeoriaIllinoisan Says:

My favorite was when one of those infomercial companies called and said John Madden could make a spot with our product and that he would be in town, not that she really knew what town I was in…

I told her that I wasn’t interested, but if John Madden wanted to stop by and discuss it with me, that would be fine.
