Reader mail: Ya gotta love the Muslim haters

February 11, 2007
By Billy Dennis

I’d like to think email like this is a joke. Certainly no one thinks like this, right?

I hope you look into what Muslims believe. Really believe. You spit out alot of lies and half truths. You sit in front of a TV screen listening to LIBREAL smears, acting like they’re telling the truth. The truth is this they (Libral Media) have talking points and smear campains. Your just another one of those SMEARS. You Liberals who hate America and believe we deserve to be attacked, are ruining this great country. That my Marine son (who I love) is defending your fat ass. So scums like are allowed to speak your mind. Well fat ass go to a Muslim country and try to pull what you pull here. NFL not for long. You wouldn’t be around long. They really do kill people who don’t convert to Islam, you idiot. They (Muslims) want us dead. They are wolves, try to negosiate with a wolf. Anyway I doubt that Obamah is anything other than closet Muslim who cheers when men like my son get killed by (muslim cowards) bombs.

Charming.

And then I got this:

The Red nose gang is right. He (obahma) wont win the south. Surly wont get Christians vote. He nothing but a tree hugging, baby killing, comunist loving far left Libberal. They don’t become President. Ask Gore…Ha! and Kerry. ….Ha!

You’ve gotta love letters like these. I almost suspect these were written by a Obama supporter. Unfortunately, I’ve been doing this sort fo thing too long to not know that there really, really are people like this.

I think you know just as well as I do, Billy, that it’s not a joke.

And like you, I wish it was.

But I’ve met far too many people in my 10+ years in Central Illinois who think exactly like this, and THAT is sad.

  2. Floyd on February 11, 2007 at 12:30 pm

He spelled “liberal” three different ways!

    Talent, pure and simple.

  3. JW on February 11, 2007 at 1:25 pm

Looks like a typical Karl Rove campaign ad to me.

    • Vonster on February 12, 2007 at 12:37 pm

      More Like Hilly.

  4. ollie on February 11, 2007 at 4:11 pm

About what Muslims “really believe”: the same people who point out the violent passages in the Koran (and yes, they are there) are the same ones that excuse the passages of mass murder in Joshua (Herbrew portion of the Bible).

And I can assure you that people who post trash like this haven’t a clue as to the difference between Sunni and the Shiites or as to who is trying to kill who in Iraq.

    Anyway, thanks for this post.

  5. ben on February 11, 2007 at 8:33 pm

Isn’t it amazing that people are still so ignorant and xenophobic in the 21st century? This is what humanity has achieved after thousands of years of ‘civilization’? So sad…

    • John on February 12, 2007 at 2:04 pm

Have any of you spent time in Countries run by Sharia Law or at least dominated by the Muslim faith. I know most muslims who have migrated to the U.S. are not extremists, but it is a different stroy overseas.

  6. BJStone on February 11, 2007 at 10:16 pm

Ben, I agree, it is so sad.

When one steps out from under the veil of his/her own religion, one can easily see that religion is far more harmful than helpful to the human race.

    • aolsurgeon56 on February 11, 2007 at 11:21 pm

      BJStone you are so right.

    • Vonster on February 12, 2007 at 10:12 am

      You and the other 5%ers.

      • BJStone on February 12, 2007 at 11:25 pm

This from a guy who still denies climate change. Frickin’ hilarious.

    • C. J. Summers on February 12, 2007 at 12:05 pm

“The abolition of religion as the illusory happiness of the people is the demand for their real happiness,” eh, B.J.?

      • BJStone on February 12, 2007 at 11:27 pm

All I’m sayin’, C.J., is the number of people in history killed “in the name of god” is pretty frightening, no matter which religion it came from.

  7. Vonster on February 12, 2007 at 7:56 am

Bectha money it’s coming out of the Clinton camp…..

  8. Vonster on February 12, 2007 at 7:56 am

  9. Eyebrows McGee on February 12, 2007 at 11:48 am

“When one steps out from under the veil of his/her own religion, one can easily see that religion is far more harmful than helpful to the human race.”

It’s ironic that in responding to ignorance and xenophobia, you take refuge in engaging in the same intolerance you deplore in these letter-writers.

    • Vonster on February 12, 2007 at 12:39 pm

Now there’s the objective Laura I’m come to appreciate!

    • BJStone on February 12, 2007 at 11:23 pm

Intolerance? Hardly. Read it again. Do you see any hate and vitriolic anger in my tone there? I was simply making an observation, and if one puts the good things religion has brought the world (and there are many) on one side of the page, and puts the bad on the other, the bad outwieghs the good by a large margin, just in murder and war alone.

I was hardly being intolerant…maybe you were.

  10. JW on February 12, 2007 at 5:41 pm

Looks like the hate machine is already at work. Do republicans ever say anything possitive about anybody, other than that Reagan twit?

    • Anonie! on February 12, 2007 at 11:19 pm

JW- Try reading the comments of your fellow moonbats on Daily Kooks, MyDD, or DU. The liberal hate machine can match the right-winger machine any day of the week.

      • BJStone on February 12, 2007 at 11:24 pm

        Bull. This is impossible.

      • ollie on February 13, 2007 at 9:28 am

It is, in part, about the size of the megaphone. Yeah, people rant at the Kos (as I often do), but no one is paying us big bucks to do so on a national stage.

On the other hand folks like Limbaugh and Coulter do that to a national audience, and there is nothing really comprable on our side (which is why Olberman’s editorials are such a hit; they are so rare)

  11. Completely Oblivious on February 13, 2007 at 4:35 pm

I respect ALL religions, Going back farther than most people have even heard about…

    SPIRITUALITY vs. RELIGION

SPIRITUALITY SAYS THAT GOD IS WITHIN US AND THAT WE DON’T NEED ANYONE ELSE TO MAKE THAT DIVINE CONNECTION FOR US.

RELIGION SAYS THAT WE ARE SEPARATED FROM GOD AND THAT WE NEED “THEM” TO MAKE THAT DIVINE CONNECTION.

SPIRITUALITY SAYS THAT WE ARE FREE TO MAKE CHOICES ON OUR OWN AND THAT WE MUST TAKE PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR OUR ACTIONS.

RELIGION SAYS WE MUST MAKE THEIR CHOICES AND ACT THEIR WAY.

THE THEME OF SPIRITUALITY IS UNCONDITIONAL LOVE.

THE THEME OF RELIGION IS FEAR AND GUILT.

SPIRITUALITY DOES NOT REQUIRE US TO MAKE DONATIONS.

    RELIGION HAS BECOME BIG BUSINESS.

SPIRITUALITY SAYS THERE IS NO HELL, NO JUDGEMENT, NO ANGRY GOD… THAT WE ARE LOVED UNCONDITIONALLY.

RELIGION SAYS THERE IS A HELL, GOD GETS ANGRY AND JUDGES US… THEREFORE, WE ARE NOT LOVED UNCONDITIONALLY.

SPIRITUALITY SAYS WE ARE FREE TO CHOOSE OUR OWN PATH TO GOD.

RELIGION COMMANDS US TO DO IT THEIR WAY.

SPIRITUALITY SAYS WE GO TO GOD TO LIGHTEN OUR BURDEN.

RELIGION HAS TAUGHT US TO FEAR THEIR GOD

SPIRITUALITY SAYS WE SHOULD NOT BE ASHAMED OF OUR SEXUALITY… THAT IT SHOULD BE A SACRED CELEBRATION OF LOVE

RELIGION HAS TAUGHT US TO FEEL ASHAMED, GUILTY AND DIRTY ABOUT OUR SEXUALITY

SPIRITUALITY TEACHES US TO HONOUR AND RESPECT MOTHER EARTH

RELIGION HAS TOLD US TO “BE THOU FRUITFUL, MULTIPLY AND SUBDUE THE EARTH” I REPEAT… “SUBDUE THE EARTH”

SPIRITUALITY REMINDS US THAT WE ARE ONE WITH GOD AND ONE WITH EACH OTHER

RELIGION TEACHES DISUNITY AND SEPARATION WHICH IS THE OPPOSITE OF GOD

    SPIRITUALITY SAYS GOD IS WITHIN

RELIGION SAYS HE IS IN HEAVEN AND THAT “THEY” ARE THE ONLY INTERMEDIARIES FOR US

SPIRITUALITY SAYS WE ARE BORN IN INNOCENCE AND PURITY

RELIGION SAYS WE ARE BORN WITH SIN

SPIRITUALITY TEACHES THAT WE ARE ON A LONG SPIRITUAL ADVENTURE AND JOURNEY WHICH WILL ULTIMATELY END BY REUNITING WITH OUR SOURCE

RELIGION SAYS WE’VE GOT ONE LIFE TO GET IT ALL RIGHT AND THERE IS NOTHING BUT HEAVEN OR HELL AFTER THAT

SPIRITUALITY SAYS WE ARE FREE TO EXPRESS

RELIGION GAVE US THE DREADED INQUISITION

SPIRITUALITY TEACHES UNCONDITIONAL LOVE FOR ALL

RELIGION GAVE US THE CRUSADES IN WHICH MANY WERE KILLED AND SLAUGHTERED IN THE NAME OF GOD

SPIRITUALITY TEACHES THAT WE SHOULD LOVE ONE ANOTHER UNCONDITIONALLY AND ALWAYS HONOUR THE RIGHTS AND CHOICES OF OTHERS

RELIGION TREATED NATIVE AMERICANS, THE MAYANS AND OTHER INDIGENOUS CULTURES AS SAVAGE PRIMITIVES WHO “MUST BE SAVED”

    SPIRITUALITY TEACHES PEACE AND HARMONY

RELIGION HAS CAUSED MORE WARS AND MORE KILLING THAN ANY OTHER REASON

SPIRITUALITY SAYS RESPECT ALL LIVING THINGS

I NEVER ONCE HEARD ANY RELIGION SAY STOP SLAUGHTERING MILLIONS OF TREES EVERY YEAR FOR CHRIST’S BIRTHDAY

SPIRITUALITY TEACHES US TO HAVE FAITH IN OURSELVES

RELIGION TEACHES US TO HAVE FAITH IN THEM

SPIRITUALITY SAYS WE HAVE ALL THE ANSWERS… THAT WE CAN FIND THEM BY “GOING WITHIN”

RELIGION TEACHES US THAT IT HAS ALL THE ANSWERS AND ONLY ITS ANSWERS ARE THE RIGHT ONES

SPIRITUALITY TEACHES US TO SEARCH FOR THE UNIVERSAL TRUTHS AND OUR HEARTS WILL TELL US WHEN WE HAVE FOUND THEM

RELIGION TEACHES WE HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO ACCEPT THEIR VERSION OF THE TRUTH

WHICH ONE FEELS BETTER TO YOU? SPIRITUALITY OR RELIGION?

GO TO YOUR HEART FOR THE ANSWER IT WILL NEVER LIE TO YOU

    • Mahkno on February 14, 2007 at 2:34 pm

Spirituality tells us that the CAPS LOCK BUTTON IS BAD.

Religion punishes those who use THE CAPS LOCK BUTTON TOO MUCH.

      • Completely Oblivious on February 14, 2007 at 4:03 pm

did you not see, my comment about the copy and pasting? Now, your going to hell…are you happy?

    • C. J. Summers on February 14, 2007 at 2:57 pm

      Indeed, straw-man religion never satisfies.

A spirituality in which you yourself are god is hard to resist.

  12. ben on February 13, 2007 at 7:19 pm

Completely Oblivious’ post was too long (and in all caps!) for me to read in full, but I agree with the parts I did see.

The ‘good’ (i.e. tolerant, selfless, etc.) religious people I know are usually more spiritual than religious; the ‘bad’ ones (intolerant, anti-science) are usually the ones quoting verses and following dogma. Just anecdotal, but nobody said you need hard data to comment on a blog. :)

  13. Completely Oblivious on February 13, 2007 at 7:41 pm

Sorry about the caps Ben, I had to copy and paste it from another blog, and I did not want to go back and change the caps to lowercase.

  14. Completely Oblivious on February 13, 2007 at 7:53 pm

News and Facts come from people, like you and me. Facts can be proven…right. Is that what makes them fact? The lightbulb works, but how does it work? If the technology cannot be proven…EXACTLY.. how it works-Does that mean it doesn’t work? No.

  15. C. J. Summers on February 14, 2007 at 10:35 am

    And that’s religion’s fault?

  16. BJ Stone on February 14, 2007 at 11:01 am

    Um…yeah.

  17. C. J. Summers on February 14, 2007 at 1:38 pm

Well, right there is your logical fallacy. If you got rid of all religion, people would still do deplorable acts; they’d just justify their actions on some other basis. I don’t know of too many religions that actually teach you to hate and kill. It’s usually the misuse and abuse of religious teachings that lead to that.

Let me ask you this: Does the fact that John Hinkley, Jr., tried to kill President Reagan to impress actress Jody Foster make Foster to blame for Hinkley’s crime?

  18. BJ Stone on February 14, 2007 at 5:46 pm

Do you think that christians running all over Asia on the crusades were just doing it to get their kicks, or were they trying to force their religion on people?

Was the reason Pilgrims left for the New World because they didn’t like the weather in Jolly Old anymore, or could there have been other reasons?

Did the radical Muslims attack the WTC because they thought the building was ugly, or were there other reasons?

Do you think the Israelis and Palestinians keep battling over the same piece of real estate over and over again because of it’s lush green grass and wonderfully colorful jungle life, or could it be something else?

  19. C. J. Summers on February 14, 2007 at 6:03 pm

Do you think Hitler killed six million Jews because of his religion or was it something else?

Do you think Columbus came to the west Indies at the behest of the church or was there another reason?

Do you think Pol Pot killed 1.5 million Cambodians for religion’s sake or could it be something else?

Did Stalin kill 3 million people by execution and privation in the name of god or was it for another cause?

  20. BJStone on February 15, 2007 at 12:09 am

Nice try at changing the focus, but my point was this: The number of people killed in the name of god is pretty frightening. That’s exactly what I said. Just becaus Pol Pot and Stalin did what they didn’t DOES NOT change the fact that the number of people killed in the name of god is pretty frightening. Want me to say it again?

And BTW, who do you suppose said this:

“Hence today I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord.”

    Um, yeah, your first example.

  21. Billy Dennis on February 15, 2007 at 12:21 am

BJ: I gotta call you on that, BJ. Nazi ideology and “spirituality” had NOTHING to do with the Christian religion. Nazi world-myth, as I understand it, revolved around the Earth being seeded with the Aryan race by falling meteors, who then went on to create Atlantis. Nazism had nothing to do with the Catholic of Lutheran churches.

  22. C. J. Summers on February 15, 2007 at 12:27 am

And my point is that people will use any excuse to justify their violence. If it isn’t religion, it’s racism or fascism or communism or even democracy. It just seems like you’ve got an axe to grind with religion.

  23. BJStone on February 15, 2007 at 1:14 am

Billy, it’s in Mein Kampf. Not that THAT says anything about Hitler or his beliefs.

  24. BJStone on February 15, 2007 at 1:21 am

“I may not be a light of the church, a pulpiteer, but deep down I am a pious man, and believe that whoever fights bravely in defense of the natural laws framed by God and never capitulates will never be deserted by the Lawgiver, but will, in the end, receive the blessings of Providence.”

( Adolf Hitler, in a speech delivered on July 5, 1944; from Charles Bracelen Flood, Hitler: The Path to Power, Boston, Mass: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1989, p. 208. )

  25. BJStone on February 15, 2007 at 1:21 am

“The anti-Semitism of the new [Christian Social] movement was based on religious ideas instead of racial knowledge.”

( Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Ralph Mannheim, ed., New York: Mariner Books, 1999, p. 119. )

  26. BJStone on February 15, 2007 at 1:22 am

“Imbued with the desire to secure for the German people the great religious, moral, and cultural values rooted in the two Christian Confessions, we have abolished the political organizations but strengthened the religious institutions.”

( Adolf Hitler, in a speech at Reichstag, Berlin, January 30, 1934. )
