PJS not exactly picture perfect
I’m hearing from rail fans that Peoria Journal Star used the wrong photo to accompany its article about plans to move the historic Broadway Street railroad depot in Pekin. The depot that’s pictured is the former C&IM Depot at 3rd and Broadway. The one that should be pictured is located at 14th and Broadway. Oops. Not that I’ve never made a mistake. This certainly doesn’t help the JS’s already shaky reputation among railroad enthusiasts.

Again and again the Journal Star has mistakes in any article about railroads. Their anti-rail prejudice is very evident.
Quote – But newspapers have to remember that they don’t just sell news – they sell legitimacy. If a story runs in the Journal Star, it isn’t just innuendo; it’s the best effort the paper can make at pinpointing the truth. Unquote – from Phil Luciano

Nor does it help the already shaky reputation of the Journal’s Pekin reporter.
I can assure you of two things:
1. The screwed up photo was probably the result of faulty communications at 1 News Plaza. It happens during the course of a busy day. The reporter in Pekin had nothing to do with it.
2. The Pekin reporter, who the poster above claims has a “shaky reputation,” is among the best reporters at that newspaper. She cranks out more stories per week — and digs up more good stories — than any three other reporters. If she makes any mistakes, it’s more from trying to do too much than from any lack of talent. There’s many people to be critical of at the PJS. She’s not one of them.
Terry said, “there are many people to be critical at the PJS.” Nice comment. I haven’t met this lady but maybe she should be covering the Peoria County Board altho Mr. Haney seems like he will do a good job if and when he can make it to the meetings.
The JS is missing out on a great story on the landfill and I’m not just talking about PDC; I’m talking about the City/County Landfill. This story should be making the major papers and JS doesn’t even send a reporter to the publicly posted meetings.
