Ah, the good old days

Back before Bill Gates conquered the universe, there was this scrappy little business machine company called IBM. They were selling these funky things called “personal computers.” If fact, the were sort of the standard, as similar machines that ran the same kind of software were even called “IBM compatible.”

They even had their own operating system: OS/2 Warp. Like Jimmy Hoffa, we all assumed that this plucky little OS was dead and buried in the end zone of Giant’s Stadium. The last time I had heard of it, it was included for free when you bought a 25-disk pack of 3 1/2 inch floppies from IBM. Turned out OS/2 Warp is alive and well, and living under an assumed name. And it’s available for download.

There was nothing scrappy or little about IBM in 1981.

OS/2 was not around when IBM came out with the PC. It came out in the early 1990’s, long after Microsoft DOS had already been installed on millions of IBM PC’s and after Microsoft came out with Windows.

Did you know that back then, OS/2 would run Novell 3.x server in a window?
