‘Heir’ Jordan joining the Illini

April 27, 2007 in The Sports Page

Michael Jordan’s son Jeffery will attend the University of Illinois next year, and he plans to play basketball as a walk-on. At first, I though “what, no scholarship? He must not be very good.” Then I remembered that that his father could probably buy the entire friggin campus if he wanted to. This is not some kid from the ‘hood.

Prediction: A four-peat for the Illini.

I don’t think it will be a four-peat… I don’t even think the younger Jordan will be a starter until his junior or senior year.

I do, however, think it speaks highly of the program that someone with such a strong hoops pedigree chose Illinois, and from what it sounds like, it’s where he really wanted to go all along. Sounds like he’s a pretty grounded guy, too. A feather in our caps, to be sure.
