Emtronics lowers the boom
April 28, 2007 in Overset
Emtronics much-hyped scoop has hit the Blogosphere. He says the popular populist city council person owes the city big time:
It seems the big news isn’t so much a conflict of interest issue as I stated earlier. It seems it more of a legal money issue. By that I mean that I have been told that Gary Sandburg, who owns properties in the City of Peoria hasn’t paid property taxes or the fines that have accrued on some of these properties.
No doubt Sandberg will have something to say. My two cents: I can see Sandberg refusing to pay a fine he thinks is unfair and making the city prove its case.

Haven’t we seen this before? This doesn’t really seem like new news. Hasn’t Sandberg refused to pay fines before because the city hadn’t upheld its end of the public contract?

Yeah, we seen it before. I am both happy and kind of disappointed that this “scoop” I thought I had was this. If true, and I am wondering if it is, I still have to wonder; Shouldn’t a councilperson be setting an example for the rest of us citizens when it comes to paying taxes? I mean, how can you point a finger at someone else, claim the law is being broke, when you yourself are breaking laws? Is it a violation of the law not to pay your property taxes? Yes, it is.

What lazy journalism! (Or should we call this a smear?) You don’t know whether any of this is accurate? Call the county offices and find out. It’s all in the public records.

It’s blogging. You don’t need to check facts. Just post information, true or false.

Yes! It is blogging not journalism. Blogging, one’s opinion which can be full of half truths or not. Opinions on the net in journal like form. BLOGGING.

It’s my understanding that if you don’t pay fines or appear in court when so ordered, you eventually have a warrant issued for your arrest. Is this correct?
And if you have a warrant, and they know you’re going to be at a city council meeting, wouldn’t they just go down there and serve the warrant?
I’m not trying to take either side here, but I hope it’s not true that a city councilman can simply “refuse to pay” fines and not get hauled in front a judge to explain himself. If any of the other average citizens on here were to “refuse to pay” a fine, would we not get in some sort of legal trouble for it?
