Trying and liking Mahalo. http://www.mahalo.com/ #
Can’t believe defunct blogger site comes up ahead of peoriapundit.com when searching for “peoria” and “blog.” Ego cannot take the insult. #
Here it is: http://tinyurl.com/ysmkfc #

I’m done with anonymous comments

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

Feh.
Effective immediately, only registered users will be allowed to comment on Peoria Pundit. My Akismet spam filter suddenly cannot tell the difference between friend and foe. And I’m sick of anonymous writers making statements of fact that are not verifiable and might be libelous (not that I’m worried about being sued, thanks to recent court […]

Today’s news: Back to work?

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

Today’s links, unless otherwise noted, are via the Peoria Journal Star:

CityLift has reached a tentative agreement with it’s union bus drivers. There’s no word on this article on whether or not the “ringleaders” of sick out will be rehired. I would certainly hope so.
Peoria native Hal Fritz received a flag commemorating the Congressional Medal of […]

Site issues: You don’t say

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

It seems that everyone is having trouble getting comments past my spam filter. So, I’m going to turn it off for a few hours and see how many real spams get through. Be afraid.
UPDATE: The filter is back one, thanks to a particularly vulger porn spam that even I found offensive.

Wal-Mart is officially the stupidist, most humorless place in America

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

From the Flint (Mich.) Journal:
When David Noordewier posted a joke on his MySpace page, he believed it was just a crude but funny bit of humor.
But his bosses at the Shelby Township Wal-Mart store weren’t laughing.
The Almont Township man was fired from his cashier job Feb. 27 after posting the joke, which suggested average IQs […]

Return of a Peoria (sorta) blogger

Central Illionois Gourmand is back posting again.

Rep. Dave Leitch has something he wishes to say …

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

The Illinois House voted 98-15 yersterday to ban the state’s five pension systems from making any future investments in companies that do business in Sudan.
State Rep. David Leitch stood up after the vote and complained that he was not given an opportunity to speak in opposition to the measure.
Perhaps he has a point.
But I recall […]

I’m back from Blogger Bash …

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

… and gee, my fingers are tired.
The bash was held at One WORLD Eats and Drinks and because the joint is a WiFi hotspot, several of us brought our laptops. I ended up helping Diane Vespa figure out a few things on her PC. I left the liveblogging to David Henderson, whose post contains all […]

Good news for online news ventures

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

So, how is the Chi-Town Daily News, an all-online news venture, going to use that nifty $340,000 grant from the Knight Foundation?
We will use the grant funding to recruit, train and deploy a highly structured network of volunteer journalists to produce a comprehensive and professional daily local news report.
By creating a network that includes at […]

Jerry Klein is half the columnist he used to be

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

A source who asked not to be identified says that Jerry Klein’s weekly column has been cut to twice a month. Either the decision was made by corporate overlords at GateHouse Media, or the local bosses, in anticipation of budget cuts from GateHouse, decided to trim some dollars by cutting him back. Whether or not […]

Typical rant against Google includes vague glimmer of a decent idea

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

Today’s entry in the mainstream media whine-fest comes from San Francisco Chronicle guest columnist/journalism educator Neil Henry, in a column titled “The Decline of News. He blames online competition for declining ad sales, which he holds responsible for job losses in the industry. A more accurate statement would be that online ad sales are making […]
