Gun bust has cops looking like boobs

This is a funny story out of the United Kingdom. Well, it is until you get to the end. Then it gets scary:

When police spotted a gun-wielding suspect lurking in the shadows of a suburban front room, their response was swift.

Armed officers burst into the house, shouted at the owner to lie on the floor, and ordered him to surrender his weapon.

But efficiency turned to embarrassment when the “gunman” turned out to be nothing more than a life-sized model of the video game character Lara Croft, complete with trademark outsized pistols.

So police apologized and left, a little embarrassed, but happy things turned out well without anyone getting hurt. Wrong.

Greater Manchester police arrested the homeowner, roughed him up a bit and tossed his sorry ass in jail for 13 1/2 hours, where he was fingerprinted and had a sample of his DNA taken. He still might face a weapons charge. I supposed he should consider himself lucky that police didn’t shoot his sorry ass and plant a drop down. Such things have been known to happen.

Look, I can see why police invaded him home. Mistakes happen. But arresting guy because of a mannequin was holding a toy gun? This is the sort of thing that could happen here in the United States when gen nuts have their way. The had toy guns almost as much as the hate the real thing.
