I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take this any more (AKA ‘Billy’s going to be playing with his thingy again’)

By Billy Dennis on May 23rd, 2007

network.jpgTwo people within 24 hours have told me that they cannot open this Web page in their browsers. And if this is affecting people I run into in bars and restaurants, then that means it’s affecting other people, too. The problem seems to be that the stylesheets (the document that tells their Web browers where to put the columns and what size and colors the text is supposed to be) isn’t loading. Fine. Just friggin’ fine. I’m done with this theme. I like it. It’s pretty. It’s supports a lot of the plugins I use. But I cannot get this problem solved. There’s no answer at the developer’s alleged support forum. So it’s off to the scrap heap, baby. Don’t let the door hit your non-functioning butt on the way out.
So, sometime during the next few days, I’ll be switching to some other theme, God knows which one. And that means I’ll have to be rebuilding my sidebars and my specialty pages. It’s going to take a lot of time and P.O. a lot of people. This is driving me insane and it’s not a long drive.

BTW: When I went looking for this graphic image, I ran across the Wikipedia entry for Network. Sweet Baby Jebus, Paddy Chayefsky might be a left-wing nut job these days, but he sure did predict the future of news entertainment, didn’t he?

That’s because you don’t know what you are doing.

So that theme do YOU recommend Mr. Takes-His-Name-From-a-Crappy-Restaurant-Chain?

  3. tsheets says:

That sucks, I like this theme…have never had a problem with it not loading. Is there something in common with the people that have problems?

  4. Mahkno says:

There is like 5-10% of users who use browsers (old versions) that don’t support stylesheets properly or at all. You are never going to please everyone bill.

Bill sez: “This is driving me inane ”

I sez: Bill you have been ‘inane’ for a long, long time. Sometimes one simple letter makes all the difference, doesn’t it?

  6. Billy Dennis says:

The problem is that this this theme loads the SIDEBARS first, not the content, no matter how I configure it. That’s bad news if you want search engines to read your post content, not your sidebar content.

I’m using the latest Firefox and PP is somewhat clunky and slow. Often when I click on comments or submit it just sits there for minutes – I finally have to go back a a page and start over.

“I’M AS CONFUSED AS HELL, AND I’M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!”

Billy, how is the very dead Paddy Chayefsky a ‘left-wing nut job’ today? And is that what we’re calling the current crop of those who suffer from Cassandra’s curse?

Hmm, a left-wing nut job who was right on and at least twenty years ahead of his time. Okay, count me in!

Way to reference a great film but I think Ned Beatty might need to pay you a visit.

Paddy is dead? Thanks for the update and CORRECTION. I always got him confused with Noam Chomsky who IS a left-wing nutjob..

  10. Bill Thill says:

However, both brilliant with the structure and use of language in their own way…but Paddy has the Academy Awards.

Remember the film THE HOSPITAL? It was released, I think, in ‘71. I was a kid but I still recall the trailer where George C. Scott bellows, “We cure nothing! We heal nothing!”

How about a double feature at the Apollo of THE HOSPITAL and NETWORK. They could hand out stiff drinks and afterward audience members could go home, curl up in corner and whimper.

How I miss the great era of film that was the 1970’s…

(The format looks great. Keep doing whatever works.)
