The Kurds are about to be screwed a second time by someone named Bush
Can someone explain to me why the Kurds shouldn’t have their own nation? They exist spread out through several nations. In any nation where they are a minority, they are oppressed by their Islamic “brothers.” And why shouldn’t the United States support the Kurds. They are our only consistent allies in Iraq, despite the fact that George H. W. Bush urged then to revolt against Saddam Hussein, and then abandoned them. Now, Turkey has (apparently) invaded Iraq, sending thousands of heavily armed, professional troops into Kurdish land in northern Iraq to hunt down insurgents, and Bush the Second is making noises designed to placate the Turks, when actually it the Turks who need to be making amends to us for raising the temperature.

To use a FARKism: Your dog wants his own country.
The Turks hate the Kurds, because any Kurdish homeland would likely include a big chunk of Turkey. And Turkey is a “strategic partner” of the United States. Turkey has a secular government (and has since the early ’20s), so it’s seen as a bulwark against Islamic fundamentalism.
While the Kurds may seem to be our staunch friends in Iraq, they certainly are not Iraqi nationalists. They want their own country, not to be part of Iraq.
Finally as my old ISU history prof, Dr. William Haddad, used to say, people without countries don’t count. This was not a value judgment but rather a statement of geopolitical reality. He made this point regarding Jews and Palestinians.
Can we say, time to stop fucking with the Middle East so our buddies can make loads off oil?Per another ex jser – we're going to have to play both sides on this now – the Kurds are our friends in Iraq or at least the Kurds aren't trying to blow us up in Iraq, but Turks are our friends (and presumably should be as they have the govt most like ours in the region), but the Kurds and Turks have hated each other for far longer than the freakin' Bush family has existed in this country. For far longer than this country has existed for that matter. So in this game, the US is the young punk soldier with fancy weapons from home trying to run the show, as our meddling in the Middle East has pretty much always been, if you think about it from the historical perspective. So, what say, W, Cheney, Condi? How's about we pack up and go home and stop trying to play god in the land of the God you give so much credit to?
Giselle: Can you get off the tardbat bus for a minute?
If the Kurds were to have their own country it would include not just parts of Turkey and Iraq but also parts of Iran, Armenia, Syria and Georgia. And as sure as a shiite the kurds are fomenting trouble. After Turkey, who will they go after next? God help us all. Each and every one of us. Hopefully Iran will attack with the power of their nuclear plants and subjugate them there evil kurds. But whatever it's all America's fault. Long live the Queen. With six you get egg roll. Be slow in choosing a friend and slower in changing him but then the best armor is to keep out of range so complain to one who can help you.
Our situation in the middle east has nothing to do with "young punk soldiers with fancy weapons". Thats a completely disrespectful and just plain ignorant comment. We (the U.S. military men and women) don't choose where or when we fight, the people you and I elected do. Think through your comment next time before you start vommitting out mindless crap. And while you are probably going to claim you meant to direct that at the current administration the words you used clearly prove otherwise.
Um…..remember a couple of weeks ago when the young 17 year old girl was stoned to death? Guess which part of Iraq that happened in?Let me give you a hint – it wasn't the southern part.
Sorry G, that was harsh.
I like cheese kurds … or are those curds?
What is a tardbat? And don't worry, I wouldn't post if I couldn't handle harsh.11Brav0 – of course, my comment was directed towards the current administration, and plenty of administrations before it, for that matter. My words, though, don't prove anything otherwise. I was speaking metaphorically and taking a really wide angle view – the US is the young punk country historically. Turkey has been around for thousands of years, the US a mere few hundred. I used soldier because we are in a war over there. You read it your way, I'll read it mine and likely never the twain shall meet.
Nothing will ever change over there until these primal bastards learn how to respect human life in general. So Giselle, you want to pull out our troops, let Iran basically take over Iraq, and fund their extremist agenda to wipe the West off the face of the earth off of Iraq's vast oil reserves? Yeah, that sounds like a good idea to me. Can't you people see that these Islamist extremists are fuckin' nuts, and want nothing more than to end our existence? Do you not have a problem with this? Now that we have overthrown Sadam's regime, we have no choice but to stay until a semi-stable government is in place. With Sadam gone, our real enemy is now Iran. We cannot let that Ahmanijaed (or whatever the hell his name is), gain control of Iraq's vast wealth. Plain and simple. Too many of our troops are dying without enough retalitory force. Civilian casualties are just part of War. Thats why you do everything humanly possible NOT to fight a war on you home soil. We need to take the gloves off and start utilizing the most powerful military in the world. Make em' lose the hunger for battle. We are letting them gain confidence, and from their point of view, I would bet they would say that they are winning the war. This does nothing but improve moral and increase the ease of recruitment efforts. We need these dirty bastards to fear us. To run when they see our might bearing down on them. It is not time to pull out troops out, it is time to start fighting like the great empire that we are. Innocent people will die, but when has a war been fought that didn't include civilian casualties? Just part of the game people. They realize this, why don't we?
