Another good reason to support the Cubs

A Cubs World Series victory may preserve reporters’ jobs:

At the risk of causing your eyes to glaze over, a brief explanation: The Daily Press is owned by the Chicago Tribune Co. (motto: Squeezing Each and Every One of You Since 1847), which also owns the Cubs, as well as mega-television station WGN and a bunch […]

Today’s News: Well, knock me over with a feather

Some links to newsworthy items in the Peoria Journal Star:

I am shocked, I say, shocked to learn that the misunderstood young man accused of killing a woman by throwing a brick off an overpass is charged with other crimes.

Peoria’s nice-looking but antiquated city hall is going to cost taxpayers more money.
I am shocked, I say, […]

Blogger Bash is TONIGHT at 7 p.m.

Email from Kevin:
Tonight’s blogger bash at Donnellys. I’ve reserved the private room they have. One would go in the front door, turn left, go through another door, turn right, go straight through the bar (non smokers will have to hold their breath :)) and the room is on the far side of the bar […]

Double dumb@$$ at the New York Times

Forgive me for chortling at this correction from the high-and-mighty New York Times:
An article on Thursday about the arraignment of three men in the shooting of two New York police officers, one of whom died, misstated the schedule set by a judge for a trial in the case. The trial is expected to begin by […]

Today’s news: Opportunity knocks

A few links from the PJS:

Word on the Street lists almost all the names that have been bandied as being interested in Ray LaHood’s job. I have a few others, which I’ll list when I have time to do some reporting.

Apparently, folks can be held more responsible for their pets than they currently can be […]

The next big rivalry: Cubs v. Brewers?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1MJ-ta0S24

My little addition to the debate: A video from a June 2005 game.
I’m tellin’ ya, this season is the beginning of a nice little rivalry. I just doesn’t feel right to just abjectly HATE the Cardinals and their fans. Too much history there.
But the Brewers? Yeah, I can hate the Brew Crew.

Gracias

I need to send a “Thank you!” to the St. Louis Cardinals and their fans for this past weekend.
That’s all I have to say on the subject at this time.

Today’s news: Heard on the street

I’ll relate the story as I heard it:
A group of twenty-somethings had stopped a a liquor store at the intersection of Gale and Forrest Hill for a six pack. The one who went inside to make the purchase came running out and ran to a nearby parking lot, then came running back and told his […]

One of these things doesn’t belong

So, I’m driving to work behind a blue Ford pick-up truck with an NRA sticker in the window.
And an Obama ‘08 sticker.
Either the guy is a liberal who like to hunt. Or he’s a gun nut who really is ticked off about the war.

Too busy to blog

This may very well be the last post until Monday. In fact, I might not even be able to moderate comments until then. So, I’m asking regular members to take a peek occasionally at the “awaiting moderation” folder and approve anything that isn’t obvious spam.
There’s lots of stuff going on a work and in my […]

WCBU’s Jonathan Ahl scoops the competition

I heard Markley and Luciano discussing tomorrow’s press conference at around shortly at around 5:30 p.m., but the intrepid Mr. Jonathan Ahl had details of his interview with Ray LaHood on his blog at 4:51 p.m. Undoubtedly, the news was on WBCU before then.
Kudos to Mr. Ahl.
For those who missed it, U.S. Rep. Ray LaHood […]

Ray Lahood to retire

Just announced Ray Lahood is retiring after this term.

‘So-called blog’ story is picking up traction, shining light on under-reported story

Rich Miller, in his Capital Fax Blog, has deemed Peoria County juvenile court judge Albert Purham, Jr. as “jerk of the month.” The post has picked up 20 comments in a short amount of time. He noted that there’s a lack of mainstream media coverage of the very story Elaine was trying to cover.
Google News […]

Welcome to the party, Elaine

I’ve invited Elaine Hopkins to the Blogger Bash set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, at Donnelly’s Shamrock Pub, located at 4908 N. Renwood Ave, near the corner Glen and War Memorial Drive (map).
And as has been noted in a comment on the previous post, Elaine did tick off a lot of local bloggers by […]

So-called Peoria judge decides journalism can’t happen on ’so-called blog’

Let me introduce you to Elaine Hopkins. Not all that long ago, she retired from a long career as a reporter for the Peoria Journal Star. If you were cop, attorney, politician or any king of public figure for the past 20 years, you’ve ran into Elaine doing her job. I don’t want to “out” […]
