Today’s news: Heard on the street
I’ll relate the story as I heard it:
A group of twenty-somethings had stopped a a liquor store at the intersection of Gale and Forrest Hill for a six pack. The one who went inside to make the purchase came running out and ran to a nearby parking lot, then came running back and told his buddies to call for help. It seems that someone had came into the store and told the clerk that there was an injured woman lying on the ground at this parking lot.
The four of them went over to try to help her as best they could until help arrived.
My friend — one of the four — says that this woman was barely dressed and was trying to crawl away. He didn’t see her face at first, but when he did, it was shocked. Her face looked like the bones had caved in and her eyeball was dislocated.
The four assumed the woman had been attacked and hit with a bat or a pipe. He later heard from a police officer friend this woman is believed to have gotten drunk, locked herself out of her home (located next to this lot) and tried to climb onto the roof the get access to an open window. She fell, and landed face first.
He didn’t recall seeing anything about this in the newspaper. Neither did I, but I wasn’t keeping an eye open for it.
He didn’t know whether or not it was a good thing that a violent crime didn’t happen.
I’m thinking that while it does no one any good to get so drunk this sort of thing happens, it’s gotta be harsher on women, because there is nothing more pathetic than a sloppy, out of control drunk woman. And there is certainly few things more vulnerable.
