Today’s News: The great unwashed
The links are from the Peoria Journal Star. The snarky commentary is my own:
- Judge Richard Grawey was going to announce that he was running for Congress, then he and his family decided against it. When I was in the third grade, my siblings and I whined so much, we convinced our parents not to buy a house out in the suburbs. Same thing.
- Pekin Mayor Dave Tebben says Pekin residents couldn’t possibly take any fewer baths than they do now. So he’s opposed to water rate hikes by Illinois-American Water Company. Methinks he ought to consider his words more carefully.
- Opponents of expanding the Peoria Disposal Company landfill are no doubt gloating over this decision. There are still appeals in the pipeline and eventually, the case will get before a panel of judges that have no political state in the outcome, and then we’ll see of the Peoria County Board’s decision was based on law … or a desire to get re-elected.
- Two bars, both of whom cater to mostly Black clientele would be able to stay open an extra two hours a night if the city expands it’s 4 a.m. liquor license zone. I think it’s only fair, considering that the bars in downtown Peoria are using bizarre dress code restrictions to keep black people from coming into their establishments. I agree that businesses have the right to establish dress codes, but I’ve read too many complaints from folks that these codes aren’t being fairly enforced, and in fact seem to make no sense. The issue is the amount of police officers that will be needed with extra 4 a.m. locations. Considering the trouble the police are having downtown because of these codes, it might result in fewer calls.

Um…your link to “4am liquor license zone” goes to the PDC story….
Any way, I say given ‘em whatever they want and, when it all goes horribly bad, we hoist Don Jackson on a petard until he explains why.
Oh, and Pam “its all whitey’s fault” Adams too.
