I could never understand it when it seems like there is a base of voters who vote D regardless of the candidate. Steve Waterworth spent about $5000 for each run and he got more than 1/3 of the vote even though he announced in a TV interview in the last campaign that he "knew he wasn't going to win but didn't want Lahood unopposed." Imagine what could happen if you put a serious candidate with few more bucks and a little charisma in there.
