Peoria, IL – Jim McConoughey, a Peoria-based business leader and President of the Heartland Partnership, a six-county, regional organization dedicated to economic growth, job creation and overall prosperity in Central Illinois has issued the following statement regarding the 18th Congressional District:

“Following several weeks of careful thought, frank discussion with those close to me and thorough consideration of the political dynamics and realities of the race for the open,18th District Congressional Seat in Illinois, I am very excited to announce that with the blessing of my wife Gina and my two children Elizabeth (16) and Spencer (12), my professional colleagues and my close friends I will formally enter this campaign as a candidate for the Republican nomination on the February 5th Primary and I intend to win.

We will be conducting a District-wide campaign kick-off tour in the next several days where I plan to visit nearly every County in the 18th District to meet with voters and tell them why I am the best choice to represent them in the U.S. House of Representatives.

This Central and Western Illinois District has an amazing tradition of electing thoughtful, effective and caring leaders to Congress, and I believe my professional career of building communities, creating jobs and serving the public proves that I have what it takes to be your next Congressman.

The next 18th District Congressman will be measured against tremendous figures with time-honored reputations. They are individuals who have provided exceptional service and leadership to this area. They have names like Ray LaHood, Bob Michel, Everett Dirksen and Abraham Lincoln – they have made a difference here in Illinois and in America. I know that I have a lot to prove to you – to consider myself worthy of joining this class, but over the course of the next five months I will show you my ability to work hard during this campaign, detail for you my professional experiences and achievements, and discuss with you my political philosophies. That said, I look forward to discussing with you, the voters, the many issues that you care about. I want to develop a set of legislative priorities that are not mine, but are ours here in the 18th District. After all, I am asking that you elect me to be your voice in Washington. My name may not be the most familiar name to you now, but you will learn during this campaign that I am the person most qualified to represent you in Congress.

Next week I will be talking with voters throughout the 20 counties of this District, discussing my professional career that has allowed me to bring new jobs to Illinois, fight for infrastructure improvements and serve the public in numerous capacities. I will also discuss some of the issues that face our Country right now and what ideas I have to influence our public policies. My work ethic in this campaign will not be compromised. Hard work is what it takes to win a seat in Congress and to do the tireless job of Congressman; hard work and its results are what I enjoy the most. I look forward to meeting you and earning your vote to be the next Congressman from Central and Western Illinois.”

Press release: “We will be conducting a District-wide campaign kick-off tour in the next several days where I plan to visit nearly every County in the 18th District to meet with voters ….”

Well, if you were a voter in one of the counties not visited — what kind of message would that send to you?

Poorly worded, already exclusive, although it might just be an oversight — time to make a course correction and fast.

Flashbacks of a dude with a fur coat on, who backed out long before the election came, so that a former State Fire Marshall could carry the GOP banner, are all over the map right now. This dude will be lucky to get 20% of the primary vote against Aaron, IF he’s lucky. Morris will be lucky to get 30%. Somebody’s momma must have been bouncing a couple little boys on their knees 40 years or so ago… and said, “This is momma’s little U.S. Congressman…”

There is no other explanation for Jim Whatevah and John Doe-eye to run against Aaron.
