Via a press release:
Republican John Morris, candidate for the 18th District Congressional seat will be participating in the 41st annual Morton Pumpkin Festival Parade on Saturday, September 15, 2007 starting at 10:30 AM. “The Morton Pumpkin Festival is one of the finest community festivals in the 18th Congressional District, produced by one of the great family-friendly communities in our nation. Its pumpkin theme reminds us of how agriculture defines the economy of Central Illinois and benefits every village and town. In the Morton Pumpkin Festival, I see pumpkins as a reminder of how much farming and agriculture is a backbone
to the economy of the 18th District. I see a place for families. I see hard working people. I see the
conservative Midwestern values that are my own.”“Hats off to the Village of Morton, Mayor Norm Durflinger, Morton Chamber of Commerce, Parade Chairs Linc and Dana Hobson, the farmers, the workforce, and all of the hundreds of volunteers and sponsors who give Morton its reputation as pumpkin capital of the world. My own family and I are so honored to be a part of the celebration.”
Morris, 39, served as a member of the Peoria City Council for eight years, representing 120,000 citizens as an at-large councilman. Born and raised in Peoria, Morris studied and worked in Washington, D.C. in numerous Republican volunteer and staff positions including in Congress and the Reagan White House. He holds a bachelor of arts and a master of public administration degree from The George Washington University in D.C.
