Politics: Morris to Schock: Find a new place to dwell

September 24, 2007
By Billy Dennis

From a press release:

Republican congressional candidate John Morris called on Aaron Schock today to move his congressional campaign out of the Peoria County Republican offices. “As a conservative Republican, I want to reaffirm my commitment to running a campaign that not only follows the letter of the law but the spirit of the law as well,” Morris said.

“With politicians in Illinois and nationwide facing scandal and ethical questions, it more important than ever for Republican candidates to hold ourselves to a higher standard and avoid even the appearance of impropriety. At best, Aaron’s use of Peoria County Republican headquarters as his campaign office creates the appearance of impropriety and I call on him to stop these activities.”

Maybe he’s mentioned it and it just hasn’t sunk in, but is John Morris a conservative Republican??

    Heh.

Morris is a conservative on taxes and, I presume, values. There’s talk about how he’s not really a conservative because he works for public television. You know, the station that airs the McLaughlin Group, William F. Buckley, Wall Street Week, Sesame Street, etc. You know, hippie shows like that.

Seriously, if Morris and McConoughey have to rent office space, why shouldn’t Schock?

I think Schock probably does pay rent for the space he uses, but I think the issue is whether or not he gains an unfair advantage from the other political activities that occur there as a result of state campaign funds.

I hope John will come to our next central committee meeting to discuss this important matter because as a cross post indicates, there are other potentially significant issues to address, e.g. primary challenges to others who regularly use the space and the role of incumbants in supporting the county party. FEC questions aside, the appearance issues apply equally well whether the election is federal, state, or local.
Billy, are you willing to say if John was the original source or if you’d heard from others?

As “effective” as the Peoria County GOP is, maybe John Morris and Jim McConoughey should be please Aaron Schock is in there…..!

Yet Vonster will still whine about how far left public television is.

When last spotted, John Morris was seen standing in a harvested cornfield outside of Brimfield, IL… with wind gusts up to 45 MPH… grabbing frantically, although not with great success, at straws passing by in the wind…
