September 26, 2007 in The Wire
From a press release:
One of the greatest comedians ever and the first actor to be nominated for an Oscar for a filmin which he played multiple roles, Peter Sellers will be featured in two movies set for downtown Peoria’s nonprofit Apollo Theater this weekend: “A Shot in the Dark” Sept. 28 and “What’s New, Pussycat?” Sept. 29.
Sellers had somewhat of a reputationas an actor difficult to work with, but he was always amazed at his success and humble about his talent.
“I’m a classic example of all humorists,” he once said. “— only funny when I’m
working.”Sellers made such memorable films as “Being There” (1979), “I Love You, Alice B. Toklas” (1968), “Lolita” (1962), “The Magic Christian” (1969), and “Murder By Death” (1976).
“A Shot in the Dark” (1964) is the best of director
Blake Edwards’ wonderful Pink Panther movies – also including “The Pink Panther” (1963), “Return of the Pink Panther” (1975), “The Pink Panther Strikes Again” (1976) and “Revenge of the Pink Panther” (1978). This co-stars Elke Sommer as a murder suspect considered innocent by the bumbling Inspector Jacques Clouseau, plus George Sanders and Herbert Lom.
“What’s New, Pussycat?” (1965) was
Woody Allen’s first movie, and offered Sellers an hilarious role as a smitten psychologist trying to help patient Peter O’Toole – a womanizer trying to be faithful to his fiancé. Co-starring are Ursula Andress and Paula Prentiss).
Admission is $5 and $4 for kids and seniors. Shows start at 7 p.m., and you can call for details at (309) 673-4343.

“Being There” is the best movie Sellers ever did. Great plot, well acted, with unequaled political satire.
