I was going to try liveblogging tonight’s city council meeting from the chat room. The trouble was that as soon as I started to post, some knucklehead was starting posting nonsense letters.
So, I went to my control panel and made of use the chat room’s “Ban this IP address” feature. It worked. But it worked too well. It turns out that the IP that I banned happened to be the one that I was using. I had just banned myself from my own chat room. How rude!
At the time, I thought the nonsense was some sort of glitch that caused double posting on my part.
Then I get home, and found an anonymous email to me from someone using that same IP address asking me to un-ban him/her and promising to be good.
It wasn’t a glitch. Someone connected to the city hall’s wireless router was being an anonymous troll on my Web page.
I suppose it could have been a member of the Peoria City Council. God knows what they do with their hands when they are behind their desks. The only person on the council who I think would enjoy being a troll is Gary Sandberg, but I’m also sure he would have bragged about it after the meeting, being the shameless person that he is, but he didn’t, so it probably wasn’t him.
John Sharp, the Journal Star’s new city hall reporter was sitting a few feet away from me. I could see his laptop. And while we’ve met, we’re aren’t buddy-buddy enough for the chatty tone of the email that was sent. Don’t think it was him.
So who else could it be? Hmmm … could it be someone who uses a laptop as his little desk at the rear of the council chambers? Someone who has relatively little to do once the meeting starts? Could it have been … WCBU’s intrepid newsman, Jonathan Ahl?
Mr. Ahl … J’accuse!
