Local: ‘Jena 6 situation right here in River City’

Here’s that letter that local NAACP leader Don Jackson is distributing:

In case you haven’t heard, we have a Jena 6 situation right here in River City. We call it the Manual 22, representing 22 Manual students who were recently ticketed by the Peoria Police department for walking along a street with no sidewalks, and or crossing the street at a location other than a crosswalk. Rita Ali will fill you in on the details because she personally witness the events. Since this new ticketing “profiling” was directed only at students attending Manual and Woodruff (students issued $100 tickets) we believe this is disparate treatment based on race. As a community we must send a strong message that we are “sick and tired” of the PPD messing with our children.

On Saturday, Oct. 13th, the Covenant Committee, King Celebration Committee and the NAACP will join together in a demonstration at the Peoria Police Department at 11:00am. We invite any other organizations who are “sick and tired” of police harassment in the A/A community to join with us.

If you have any questions contact me or Rita Ali foir more information. Don Jackson

My information is that this involved large groups of teens walking down the middle of the road and refusing to get out of the way of oncoming cars, some of whom were threatening and intimidating drivers who wanted them to get out of the way. And a request for assistance cam from Peoria School District 150.

I fail to comprehend the similarities between these two situations.

Al Sharpton…er…I mean Don Jackson has to justify his generous salary so you can count on him to “discover” some racism if he needs to.

    Race Pimp.

  3. JB says:

Don Jackson is the biggest racist in the tri-county area. (Including Matt Hale)

  4. I grew up where we had no sidewalks. We walked on the side of the road, not down the middle of it. Kids who are walking in the middle of the street here do not move. If you are trying to drive down the street they give you a look like how dare you try to drive when I am walking here. It is ridiculous. Why doesn’t Don Jackson do something that uplifts the African American community instead of crying racism when it is not appropriate.

Oh, has Mr. Jackson ever targeted someone, or threatened them for expressing an opinion? Has he posted someone’s private information (phone number, address) on the internet with hopes that someone cause them harm?

Has he called them up late at night to make threats?

People like Mr. Hale do things like that.

Yeah, I don’t like the gangs of kids who walk in the middle of the street. One of them banged on my truck, so I got out and he ran away.

I am glad that the police are stepping in.

One other thing: I do know that runners (people who run long distances) were indeed given tickets for running on the side of the road, if sidewalks were available (that was a few years ago).

Yeah, the Matt Hale comparission was over the top.

  7. vonster says:

But Matt Hale isn’t in the tri-county area anymore… [snicker]

It isn’t going to be long until there’s a full blown race war. It’s been coming for a long time, and it would seem that the Jena 6 incident has excellerated it. Home’s, business’s and individual’s on the street will be at risk/fair prey for those who who have refused to think for themselve’s…letting hate group’s, both white and black, decide their fate, and that of those they have been taught to hate.

God be with us all, when that sad day dawn’s. It will be another Iraq/Afghanistan.

  9. Anon E. Mouse says:

I think Joyce is really overstating things.
I think that there are going to be some uncomfortable paradigm shifts come along, on both sides of the racial divide. Sure, there are radicals on each side, but I honestly doubt that they are going to heavily influence the majority of the people.

Why doesn’t Don Jackson just tell the kids to STOP WALKING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD? Problem solved. Crisis over.

  11. Mazr says:

“Walking along a street”………maybe someone in the media will ask Don if he thinks the “22″ were walking in the middle of the street, hence the tickets.

    RE: Don Jackson

First off, this is nothing like the, “Jena 6,” situation. Secondly, this was a, “nuisance and distraction,” which made it hard to travel on the road. Police were justified if these morons were walking in the road and would not move for vehicles, and also taunting drivers as they passed.

Don: its never a black or white or green thing. Its an ignorance thing. You make your own irrational conclusions, and you are to blame as well, for sticking up for irresponsible people…and justifying their actions.

The public expects you to make rational decisions based on the fairness and equality of race, and when you take a large group of people who were being a public nuisance, and say…they did nothing wrong, you slap the public in the face.

If this was truly an issue based on race, and as you put it, “Jena 6,” issue in Peoria, then you deflect responsibility and are no better, or less guilty than they are.

Gather yourself and get professional, your weak, and your criticisms are unfounded and baseless. Get educated on the real issues. There is no doubt, that there are important race issues and unfairness and judgements that need to be noticed, and your job is to find these issues.

  13. vonster says:

It could be said that the racism is on the part of negro youths who try to intimidate caucasian drivers.

  14. Anon E. Mouse says:

No, Vonster, not racism. That would be only if the ’street blockers’ were of one group and all the drivers were of another group.
My guess is that the ’street blockers’ were intimidating ALL drivers. That makes this a mob action.

  15. chefkevin says:

Maybe before the rally 22 people need to stand in front of Don Jackson’s driveway not allowing his exit to said rally and see if his thought process remains the same.

  16. vonster says:

I wish somebody could have filmed this. I wonder if there’s dashcam available.

  17. [...] gave tickets. So what happened? The local civil rights people were up in arms; evidently they are trying to build on the “Jena 6″ paradigm, as the majority of the kids given tickets were African [...]

I think kids should be allowed to color their hair and dress in any fashion. They should be allowed to walk down the middle of a public street, use drugs and alcohol and carry weapons. I also think educators and police should remain in coffee and doughnut shops where they belong.
