Local: Where was Turner?
Today’s follow-up story on Pat Parsons’ resignation as Peoria’s human resources director pretty much confirms my speculation that it was all about the health care contract screw-up. But I am surprised that Council member Eric Turner was the source. He told reporter John Sharp that he wasn’t at the closed door meeting in which this was discussed? That’s funny, because Turner certainly did attend last night’s regular meeting, which was followed by the executive session. Why didn’t Turner attend? I was always under the impression that the council members generally know what the subject is going to be beforehand. If Turner was so concerned about someone he’s known for a long time was going to be shown the door, then perhaps he ought to have attended. Perhaps he ought to have attended because that’s what he was elected to do. Of course, by not attending, he can complain all he wants without violating the secrecy of what was said in closed session.

You’re under the false assumption that what is discussed in closed session is confidential and treated that way by those attending. There are more leaks out of that room than can be counted. There is a significant number of those attending the meetings that share in detail their discussions, decisions, and the “blow by blow” with others.
I’m not questioning you when you say he was there at the Budget meeting since you were there Liveblogging – but I can’t remember Turner saying a single thing which seems surprising – and I just re-read your liveblog and you didn’t mention him. He was very vocal at the previous budget meeting.
