Today’s news: Replacement costs
Unless noted, all links via the Journal Star:
- Here’s the inevitable criticism: While people have to walk in the street because of a lack of sidewalks, the city responds with lightning speed to ensure that no one has to walk an uncarpeted floors at city hall. The fact is that insurance will pay for the carpeting, tile and walls damaged by the recent water line break. The other stuff — the new HVAC system is coming out of taxpayer’s pockets and has to be done to maintain the building. No doubt there will some pontificating that WILL mention sidewalks.
- The Herald-Whig in Quincy actually has an article about the issues — at least as far as one candidate is concerned — in the 18th District Congressional race.
- The Canton Daily Ledger has a nostalgic article about the Feasters restaurant building, which was destroyed by fire.
- Peorian Kouri Marshall gets a shout out in this Southern Illinoisan column about Morris Dees visit to Southern Illinois University. Kouri is a law student, and I predict big things from him when he gets his degree and returns to Peoria.
- The people who write the editorials for the Journal Star’s award-winning (snicker) editorial page have weighed in on Congress overriding President Bush’s veto of a bill to spend $23 billion on river projects throughout the country. The JSEB is absolutely thrilled that the bill includes money for the Illinois River. But they still imply Congress is a bunch of pork-barrel creeps who just want pay off voters to get re-elected. In other words, it’s pork if it goes anywhere other than home. Gotcha.
- Via WEEK, I’m glad to see they are exposing high school students to some real American heroes
- Hey! Where are all the Catholics?
Yeah, I noticed. Not a lot of real news today.

We’re broadcasting a football game this afternoon, but I’m running into a little censorship in trying to tell people about it over at the pjstar sports message boards.
My posts keep getting deleted about the Metamora-Pontiac game today, a game that is being broadcast by several stations, including our CD 107.9, as well as WMBD AM and a station out of Bloomington.
Thought Billy would be interested in knowing about it.
