Blogs: Liveblogging an explosion

There was a huge explosion in Springfield yesterday, and long-time blog-buddy Marie Carnes liveblogged it. It’s a miss of personal observations, posting data as it comes in from broadcast media. At least one commenter from San Diego was using her blog to keep track of updated information.

I was leaving Springfield at 6:55pmm. Ran into about 8 police cars flying down the interestate and thought, “Hmmm that is odd” then drove into “fog” and realized it was smoke. The radio station cut in and said there had been mulitple explosions at the power plant and that there may be a toxic cloud forming (I think they later said it wasn’t). Way too much excitment for me. The weird thing was it seemed like the power was still on in most of the city.

Doesn’t surprise me. Marie liveblogged one of the Springfield tornadoes too (in March 2006).

And Bean Counter, yes, the power did stay on, amazingly enough… just a brief flickering of lights was all most people including me saw (plus a huge bang for those close enough to hear the explosion). No toxic cloud either.
