Blog: Gonna need a new favicon

logo.jpgThe City of Peoria wants to spend $30,000 to design a new logo to replace the Indian-head design they’ve been slapping on everything since 1975. It’s the same image I’ve using as an icon for this site for years. I’ll withold judgement on whether I think it’s a good idea or not. It’s easy to say that it’s $30,000 that could be spent on sidewalks or applied toward reopening Fire Station 11. But marketing IS important, and the current logo just doesn’t SAY a lot about Peoria, except that there were native people who lived here before white people showed up. Not that the image really looks like a native American.

I suggest that the city consider making ideas and suggestions from the public part of the process. And I would also suggest something that takes the Illinois River into account, perhaps by incorporating a steamboat into the design.

Thats a good idea Bill. What they could actually do is ask the public to design the logo..as a contest. Just like the museum. A logo design with a steamboat would hold true meaning for Peoria.

If they hold a contest to design the logo, and award the winner $500, then they could still fix some sidewalks. Although, most of that cost effects the changes that would have to be made to incorporate the, “new,” logo.

What? A pic of some guy walking down an East Bluff street holding an illegal Glock 9mm won’t work?

    Oh, POSITIVE logo……

Pay the consultant to create the guidelines (less than $10k) Make it a contest for the public to design according to the consultant’s criteria with $500 cash or $5000 of downpayment assistance on a Heart of Peoria house (to be owner occupied). $250/$2500 to second and $100/1000 to third.

I’ve thought for years that this logo was severely dated. And why hasn’t Peoria got the backlash from all the political correctness about Indians, er, I mean Native Americans.

Though I have to agree that the $30,000 could be better spent. Perhaps contact Bradley and open the contest to its art and marketing students.

This is exactly what is wrong with this city! Your car has a flat tire / solution is to go get the car painted!—————————————–STUPID

Usually I think things like this are a waste of time, but I am so in favor of this. That logo is so outdated and stupid-looking.

They should spend at least half that 30k on eradicating the old logo from the city.
