Sports: Ryno’s back

December 18, 2007 in The Sports Page

Rocky Vonachen was just on WMBD 1470. The Cubs have decided to assign Ryne Sandberg as the coach of the Peoria Chiefs for the 2008 season. Naturally, Phil Luciano was making snide comments about the Cubs.

As well he should … >:-)

    Cubs: 100 Years of Failure.

  3. Anon E. Mouse Says:

That’s National League Central Division Champion Cubs to you, Mr. Weas…I mean Mr. Summers.

  4. BJ Stone Says:

Winning the 2007 National League Central…hmmm…isn’t that like driving the prettiest Yugo?

BJ - knew you’d chime in eventually.

CJ- best of luck to your out of state team.

100 years isn’t really that long, if you put it in perspective…

We first heard the news from our daughter in Switzerland, who we raised right, alas! as a Cub fan.

Ryno brought us out to O’Brien Field for the first time last year and we came back for more. My wife even threw out the first pitch at one game. It’s pleasant, uncrowded, nearby parking, and a slightly better than 50% chance of seeing a win: in short, Wrigley Field without the cost and hassles and overpriced beers. And Ryno, we’ll never forget 1984.

  7. BJ Stone Says:

Alan, you forgot: it’s much cleaner, there are less obnoxious drunks, no rats, no pieces of the stadium falling on your head, and no idiot yelling “woo woo” at the top of his lungs in the bleachers.

  8. BJ Stone Says:

PI - if you’ll read my comment again, you’ll see it’s an indictment of the NL Central as a whole, not just Team Pathetic.

  9. RomanII Says:

With the attendance record set last year, there must have been some profit involved; I wonder when the investors in the Chiefs will receive something back on their money? A little public publicity on this issue might bring forth some rewards for those who saved the organization. Step up to bat someone!
