Local: Some Bacon for breakfast in Pekin

December 29, 2007 in Local Tags: , , ,

Kinight in Dragonland has been a bit lazy of late and not living up to his rep as the unofficial “Pekin Pundit.” He broke out of his funk with a good post giving hell to a certain member of the District 108 School Board. No, not Jim Mangan (who actually served on a different school board). The other guy, Dean Bacon. Seems that Mr. Bacon is crying “fraud” every time a vote doesn’t go his way, and it may be costing the district time and money in lawyer’s fees.

I was just talking up Mr. KiD the other day. I’m glad he is back on his game.

Thanks for the post & the link, Billy. I’ve been slacking in my blogging in general, but especially in my blogging about local issues.

Just for clarification … Mangan was a member of the District 303 school board (the high school district), but he didn’t run for re-election last year, so he’s no longer in public service. Other than the occasional letter to the editor in the Daily Times, Mr. Mangan has been pretty quiet lately.

Bacon has been a member of the District 108 school board (the elementary / middle school district) for a long time. I believe he’s in his fourth term, and I’m pretty sure he plans to run again in 2009. He ran for mayor in 2003, with Lyn Howard narrowly beating him in the primary election by about 40 votes. Bacon, Mangan and Mike Noyes (who submits frequent editorials to the Times) are three peas in a pod.

Bacon is entitle to his opinion in regards to the bids in question, and he expressed that opinion by voting against awarding the bid to Johnson Control Systems. However, to take this matter to the State’s Attorney is either sour grapes or grand-standing, and its wasting time and money.
