Politics: Morris is on the air

John Morris, the best communicator among the Three Amigos running for the 18th District, got his commercial up on the air. I saw it television the other day and thought it suited his campaign perfectly.
He touches on all the big themes, even if he is a little short on specifics. At least he isn’t saying, like Aaron Schock did last night that Iran is still being governed by the Ayatollah Khomeini.

The anti-Aaron Schock venom constantly spewed here is quite striking and indisputable.
I enjoy the spirited talk and debate I observe here and that is why I keep coming back and reading, on a daily basis. It is freedom of the press and expression at its greatest, even if I disagree with much of what I read here. Agree or disagree our ability to do so is our greatest freedom.
When State Rep. Schock becomes the 18th Congressional Represnetative it will be interesting to see all the talking heads reactions.
SRC: Congrats for staying on message:
1. Any criticism of Schock is a form of hate speech.
2. Schock is going to win anyway.
I’m listening to the debate now, halfway through, and Morris is kicking ass.
SCR, do you think his first foreign junket will be to visit Mao in China? Or perhaps he will go have a chat with Saddam to straighten things out.
Look, some of us don’t think he is qualified for the spot, and his error the other night is further evidence. I am shocked that no one seemed to pick up on the mistake. However, If Aaron is going to present himself as the one with brilliant ideas on foreign policy, he should at least know who the foreign leaders are…wouldn’t you agree?
Hey, critisim of policy differences is fine. I just sense an undercurrent of strong personal dislike of him by some of you. Just be honest and call it what it is. Thats all.
First, smarties, Ayataollah Khamenei is currently the top ruler of Iran, not Amadinejad. Ayatollah Khamenei is the Supreme Ruler of Iran while Amadinejad is merely the President. Khamenei sounds alot like Khomeini, the first Supreme Ruler after the revolution in 1979.
In the debate you are referring to, McConoughey talked in current terms about the “League of Nations,” which never got off the ground after WWI. He also said Turkey is “the only wholly Muslim nation that recognizes Israel.” I’m pretty sure Egypt is considered as Muslim as Turkey and Egypt has recognized Israel since the Camp David accords in 1978. Muslim Jordan also recognizes Israel and has diplomatic relations. Morris said the first World Trade Center bombing was in 1991. It actually was in 1993–during Clinton’s presidency, not Bush 41. So if you want to start correcting facts, be fair.
Yeah, he said Khomeini.
And all of those criticisms are fair…so is mine okay with you now?
I was uncertain who would be the one to begin blasting Aaron. My question given the absolute attacks full of “venom” on this site and the other main blog, is “Do you get the entire 100 virgins for yourself upon completion of your assigned mission or you do have to share them with the others from your camp(s).”
That being said. Fact checker I caught the Turkey reference also and thought that the candidate who was so well versed in the Cuban Missle Crisis at the age of one, wasn’t paying attention during the most noteworthy Camp David Discussions between Egypt and Isreal. I also thought it odd that World Trade Organization would be recommended as the entity to check the validity of the top secret intelligence information obtained by the CIA. This was then changed to the League of Nations which you referred to your post. There were host of blunders which could be quoted in detail, wonderboy, you must have been taking a bathroom break during the other two candidates’ answers.
I believe Aaron is correct in his analysis of the threat of Hezbollah to Lebanon vs.let’s make a joke out of our last names answer… Fact Checker: not sure on this but check Qatar as another support nation of Isreal who would be Muslim….I haven’t had the time today to do much research. That and the other four pages of notes taken indicate that Aaron did not have all the answers, but scored way above the rest in the specific quality of his answers. None of them knew the answer to the question of Canadian rights to the Artic Sea for example, but unless the question could be turned to include the words “economic development “, they weren’t answered by one candidate, except the Turkey reference, which was clearly anticipated, but not well researched on one end and on the other end, many questions were not answered to the point where the asker had to request that the question asked be answered. Most concerning to me was the answers given by two of the candidates about the weak dollar. One candidate said essentially the dollar will bounce back….it’s strong…(well it isn’t) . Another suggested that solution is to grow the economy so that the National debt becomes simply a smaller percentage (statistically) of the GNP than it is now. For all you antipork folks the door was left wide open for questions for that candidate. If one has noticed the Fed has been making several adjustments to interest rates to adjust for potential inflation and effects of weak dollar on world market. Greenspan’s recent analysis also came to mind with this answer. I am not an economist, but just changing the debt ratio statistically in my own household will not resolve any debt problem long term.
It was good to have the MP3 version vs. a televised version as it forced me to listen and play back answers to be sure I heard them correctly. I took four pages of notes. These are just a few highlights, but kept some of the fun stuff to actually formulate questions of my own at an upcoming forum. and much like the last election there will be interest in a complete analysis closer to the primary. Morris flat out attacking of Schock will appeal to the Springer set. Some on here will love that, altough Aaron took it in stride. It didn’t help Morris and didn’t hurt Schock. Each candidate got the opportunity to ask another candidate a question, which was an interesting twist. Morris and McConoughney both asked Schock questions. Clear deference to the front runner.
The attack by some here on the whether Aaron said Khamenei or Khomeini indicates a lack of research unless someone has become an expert on exect pronounciation of Iranian names? But in these answers Again, Aaron has the specific data regarding threats of Iranian goals of nuclear build up, referencing the need for 3,000 centrigues needed to produce one bomb per year and the goal of the leadership of Iran (yes Supreme) of 54,000. No other candidate even touched that answer. I also find facinating the rather spirited discussions going on CJ’s site where numerous people are frustrated by the continued Economic policies of the city in the expansion to the North, the annexation, the spreading of reasources and my own concerns of the detrimental impact on neighborhoods trying to restore areas on their own w/o resources. Who’s philosophy is this? Who is backing it? Who’s pushing it? Look beyond the officials and hit who laid some foundations and who is currently plucking strings for the proliferation of this philosophy. It makes the die hard anti Schock folks completely w/o a viable candidate and I am not sure they have even caught onto that. I everyone well in their analysis of this and future forums. I will be voting for Aaron. For whomever you chose to vote, please look into your candidate yourself and see that he represents your interests. While reading informaton on here and in the paper might be helpful, I would suggest you rely on your thoughts and that includes the acceptance or rejection of my own comments.
” I would suggest you rely on your thoughts and that includes the acceptance or rejection of my own comments.”
For some reason I don’t think you truly believe that otherwise you wouldn’t have written a novel on why Schock is the greatest thing since sliced bread.
And what was so bad about bread you had to slice yourself anyway, but i digress…
Bravo,
if you believe that it is poor advice for people to form their own opinions, by all means chose someone else’s opinion for yourself.
There are a host of problems entailed in slicing your own bread…..experience them first hand when I do bake bread from scratch…but I digress…..
I don’t mind if you call me pot as long as I can call you kettle.
Again, I admit the others made mistakes, but why should that discount Aaron’s? The reason I pointed this one out in particular is because it is related to the nuke plan…and thus I would hope he knew all of the players involved.
Hey Paul,
1) I don’t have the debate committed to memory so when you attack other candidates for what they said can you at least point out who you are talking about. I got most of the references, but not all of them.
2) I did hear a good portion of the debate and I thought Morris was the best, both in what he said and how he said it.
That being said the points from people regarding Schock leading up to now are pretty valid:
A) He is extremely young without the life experiences of his opponents. He keeps saying he’s done a lot and he’ll do more, but what exactly has he done other than get elected to positions? District 150 is in shambles and I don’t know of any great legislation he has helped pass in the house in his 3 years there.
B) Given his initial name recognition from the nukes to Taiwan, to being a Giuliani supporter or a local chair on his web page…but saying he is not endorsing a candidate, to no cameras on him at events he has run a fairly poor campaign so far.
I still have not made up my mind and I am looking forward to more debates, but I am leaning away from Schock at this time and towards Morris. Schock said he wants to bring new ideas to Congress, but if he brings something like the nukes to Taiwan thing not only will he and our district be a laughing stock in Washington, but he won’t be respected by his colleagues enough to get things done. I was surprised that McConoughey called a press conference about the nukes thing, but then stayed away from it at the debate. Puzzling?
I appreciate each of the candidates for getting involved in this great process though. It is no doubt a lot of work for each of them and a strain on both they and their families.
Does anyone now wonder why really good people and candidates do not want to get involved in these petty political grab-bags? I realize that two of these candidates need a job, and I keep wishing we had better choices than these three.
The first debate I witnessed was Kennedy-Nixon in 1960. Each side thought their guy had one.
And so has it been ever since, though everyone will agree that Lloyd Bentsen thumped Danny Quayle.
Ooops–maybe not everyone on THIS blog.
hey alan, it’s won…not one. donut worrey, you’ll git their sumday.
