Local: I Wish’t I was in Peoria*

January 21, 2008 in Local

I’ve made this announcement on Peoria.com, already. But I want all my readers to know.

I’m moving back to Peoria this week. I’ve found an apartment on North East Randolph inside one of the beautiful historic buildings there. It’s not a large place, but it suits my needs. I’ll probably be spending one more night here in Kingspark, then I’ll be a resident of the West Bluff.

When I bought an Apple Power Mac (used), I remarked that I suddenly felt a strong sense of smug superiority. Combine that with the fact that that I now live within the boundaries of the Randolph Roanoke Residential Association, I will no doubt become intolerable.

Heh.

Seriously, I am very glad to be back home.

    There goes the neighborhood. :-)

It’ll be good for your bloggery, to be right there in the heart of the good ol’ city.

    Al

  2. Sud O. Nym Says:

Randolph Roanoke is by far the most dysfunctional neighborhood in the city. Marcella and Jack Teplitz, Karla and Todd Dennhardt, Paul Day, Mike Levan, the Vega family, and a whole cast of characters. Some vandalize others’ vehicles, still others attempt to burn down a neighbor’s garage. Good times.

  3. Billy Dennis Says:

Sounds like a fun place to blog.

  4. C. J. Summers Says:

Welcome back to the West Bluff, Mr. Dennis. It’s about time!

  5. Sue Says:

    Welcome to the “hood”!

  6. Anon E. Mouse Says:

Mom & Dad kicked you out of the trailer, huh?

  7. Billy Dennis Says:

    Good one, Mouse …

  8. diane vespa Says:

Wa-hoo! That sounds like a really cool place to live. When is the house warming party??? I’ll bring the Corona ;)

  9. Billy Dennis Says:

A big housewarming party is NOT a good idea. I might be able to fit five people into this place at any one time. Anymore, some people will be lying on the bed at the same time. Come to thing about it, a party might NOT be a bad idea …

  10. Tim Says:

    Welcome aboard!

  11. Eyebrows McGee Says:

Woohoo! Now I have someone to visit after Junior League meetings. :D

  12. PeoriaIlliniosan Says:

I’m expecting some citizen journalism to come out of this move- just make sure you pay your dues to the association.

  13. Billy Dennis Says:

I was under the impression membership in the RRRA was open only to home owners, not renters. Correct me if I’m wrong ..

  14. Conrad Stinnett Says:

Welcome back, Billy. Not sure about RRNA specifically, but most associations, including University East NA (of which I am pleased to be a part) encourage renters to participate.

  15. Scott J Says:

Billy, I think you should celebrate by changing your theme…again. Seriously, wish you the best on your move.

  16. Tim Says:

    Dennis,

All are welcome to participate in the RRRA activities, and we work via consensus. The key word is “work”. Renters have always participated. They do not have to pay dues.
It will be good for you to see the real story of Randolph Roanoke and not rely on those anonymous comments.

  17. Tim Says:

    That should be MR. Dennis.
    Typing without glasses
    Tim

  18. Sud O. Nym Says:

    “Tim”,

If my anonymous comment (technically, my comments are psuedononymous) is one that you are referring to, tell me where I’m wrong. I’m not saying RR is a bad neighborhood, but you guys do have your fair share of colorful characters and events. I’d love to be corrected.

  19. Peo Proud Says:

Congrats Billy and GREAT move on the mac purchase!

  20. Mister Ed Says:

That neighborhood was screwed-up 20 or more years ago when many houses on Randolph on the other side of Hamilton were torn down to put in parking lots. Also other streets lost themselves to the land grabbing Methodist Hospital. My sister used to rent an apartment in one of those houses in the late 50’s - it was a beautiful old house. One thing you can always count on Peoria doing is to tear down old buildings that need a little maintenance in order to put in a parking lot or some crappy looking fast food joint.

  21. Billy Dennis Says:

This experience taught me that there IS a shortage of inexpensive effeciency/one room apartments in Peoria.

  22. Mahkno Says:

    “inexpensive”… what constitutes inexpensive?

I guess I wouldn’t have thought there was a ’shortage’ of rental space.

  23. eric hemminger Says:

sorry to hear you are leaving Kingspark. will you still be writing about us or coming to the meeting on Feb. 7th?
i do not know if you found out but i finally got the ‘Il. Public Health’ violation report done back on Sept. 11th. plus i got pictures of the report hanging in the office which the report was done back on Oct. 16th.
    take care.

  24. Precinct Committeeman Says:

The Peoria County Pundit will miss you

  25. Paul Wilkinson Says:

Rental prices unfortunately aren’t driven by the market, they are driven by the Section 8 pricing…..something to be worked on at the Federal level..

    Welcome to the 2nd District……
and thanks for shooting the pics tonight at the council meeting…appreciate it.

    Paul

  26. Dave Says:

i grew up in west peoria. we always thought randolph/hamilton area was east bluff. where were we wrong? knoxville ave.? anywho, no one ever thought of that area as west bluff. youre central over there.

  27. Hollister Says:

When the hell did you move? Where have I been this whole time? I really should give up whiskey. Welcome back - I’m a rotten friend.
