Media: Here’s why need to keep an eye on Comcast
Via Valleywag:
The FCC has announced that it will hold a second hearing on “net neutrality” — the debate over whether broadband providers can favor some kinds of Internet traffic — at Stanford University on April 17 (PDF). We wrote back in February that FCC chairman Kevin Martin was considering a “do-over”; the FCC’s first hearing at Harvard was deemed botched after Comcast was caught packing the room with seatwarmers hired off the street. Now, Comcast has to deal with a hostile crowd and Professor Lawrence Lessig, a strong proponent of net neutrality. Lessig v. Comcast at Stanford? Sign me up!

Cranking up the fear?
This blows. I’d heard the rumors surrounding Comcast and their shady business practices, and man, talk about things coming full circle. I thought people were just complaining and exaggerating what they were mad about. Turns out they were right.
And now, we’re stuck with the scumbags. Great.
Yes. Vonster. Complaining about a corporation’s attempt to influence public debate by misrepresenting the public’s point of view on policy is EXACTLY the same thing as trying to frighten the voters about the dangers of electing a black man as president.
I had insight and for a couple months comcast. Only comcast because they bought insight. My readings about the comcast business practices caused me to give up the 10 down and 1 up service which sucks large files are being uploaded or downloaded. COMCAST throttles large file transfers to where you can not get the material. I am not talking illegal movies and songs, I talking pixs I took and uploading to MY SERVER. The trouble with a cable company running an IP is they have a vested interest in keep you on the cable tv side for video. Checkout Hulu.com for what the internet is providing in videos — LEGAL and FREE.
Yes, I sent the wife to the cable office and had her tell them to stick it. I am sure she didn’t tell them exactly that, but we no longer get our internet via cable. We live in Pekin so we DID have an alternate source. Our phone company DSL only runs at 3/4 the speed, but I am able once again able to upload and download things without a CAP on bandwidth.
Yes, COMCAST IS BAD, a terrible choice for an internet provider. AVOID THEM IF YOU CAN!
My next move will be to disconnect the TV side. All the shows that we like are being published on the internet. From the wife’s HGTV to my sports and geek interests.
COMCAST – BAD!
